John Francis Azzarello, 81, passed away at 1:16 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026, at his home.
John was born on June 30, 1944, in Lima, Ohio, to Nicholas and Frances (Porto) Azzarello. On October 24, 1964, he married Patricia Ann (Corwin) Azzarello, who preceded him in death on November 5, 2022.
John was a 1962 LCC graduate. He was a member of St. Gerard’s Catholic Church, a lifelong member of the Elks for 54 years, the Eagles both Lima and Delphos, C.I.A.O., and Knights of Columbus. John attended The Ohio State University for Civil Engineering and worked for the State of Ohio and Teledyne Steel. He partnered with his brother, Anthony “Tony” in ownership of Azzarello Blue Peaks Restaurant and The Argonne Hotel. John and Tony joined their father in ownership of Azzarello Steak House Restaurant. He finished his career at ACI.
He enjoyed doing oil paintings, which his family treasures. He was an avid backyard bird watcher, and loved his very own parakeet, Oliver. He liked fishing, golfing and going on beach vacations with his family. John was very mechanically inclined and led renovation projects for all his children’s homes.
He is survived by his children: John “Jack” (Beth) Azzarello, Christine (Eddie) Hullinger and Michelle “Shelly” (Greg Schiffler) Mooney; grandchildren: Megan (David) Jackson, Nichole Azzarello, Nicholas Azzarello, Emily (Mario) Jansen, Allison (Braden) Baldwin, Chelsea (Pete) Hill, Brittany Mooney and Mitchell Mooney; great-grandchildren: Lauren Jackson, Mario Anthony Jansen, Ilvia Jansen, Dean Hill, Ada Hill, and Penelope Mooney; a brother, Anthony (Marti) Azzarello; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Dominic John Azzarello.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 20, at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church. Father Mike Sergi will officiate. Burial will follow at Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Gerard’s Catholic Church.
