Gladys Rogers Obituary

Published by Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services LLC on Jul. 7, 2012.
Gladys Lucy Russell Rogers, age 91 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 7th, 2012 at her home with her family by her side. Mrs. Rogers was born on September 6th, 1920 to the late Charles Audle and Emma Rose Justice Russell in Scott County, Virginia. She lived and raised her children, along with her late husband, Lloyd Rogers, in the Kingsport area. Mrs. Rogers was a true caregiver in every sense of the word. It did not matter if it was immediate family or extended family; Gladys was always there to lend a helping hand. She was a fantastic cook. In her spare time, she loved to garden and fish. If you said "let's go fishing," she would drop whatever she was doing and go. Mrs. Rogers was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was of the Holiness faith. In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by two brothers, Worley Russell and Gardner Russell; and a granddaughter, Shannon Rogers Lane. Left to cherish her memory are her children, son and caregiver, Paul D. Rogers, son and caregiver, Glenn Rogers and wife Ann, daughter, Shirley Gurganus, son, Jim Rogers and wife Iva Jean and son, John Rogers and wife Agnes; granddaughters, Lisa Hughes, Cindy O'Neal, Sissy Caldwell, Janet Rogers and Kayla Rogers; grandsons, David Rogers, Jeff Rogers, Tony Rogers, Brad Rogers, Landon Rogers, Scott Rogers, John Rogers and Jerry Rogers; seventeen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Edward Russell and wife Willie, Luther Russell and wife, Emma Lou and J.C. Russell and wife Nancy; and four sisters, Orpha Russell Compton and husband, Rudolph, Rosa Lee Russell Lane and husband, Gene, Virginia Russell Cradic and husband Charles and Connie Russell Dykes and husband Rollin. The family will receive friends in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel at Oak Hill Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 10th, 2012 from 1:00until 3:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM with Andy Caldwell, officiating. The graveside service will follow in the Garden of Gethsemane at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Rogers' grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. David "Boo" Nelms and Don Cobb will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain States Hospice at 101 MedTech Parkway, Suite 100, Johnson City, TN 37604. We are deeply grateful to so many people who have comforted and cared for Gladys during the difficult last stages of her life. A very special thanks goes to the staff of Mountain States Hospice. Also, a big thank you to her Special Caregivers, Toni Rogers, Ann Rogers, Phyllis Hoss, Sissy Caldwell and Carol Rogers who cared for her with love and great thoughtfulness. They were all exceptionally kind and caring and were a very special blessing to Mammaw. The staff of Oak Hill Memorial Park, Funerals and Cremations is honored to serve the family of Gladys Lucy Russell Rogers.
