Obituary of Glen Wayne Duncan
At the age of 87, Glen Wayne Duncan entered the kingdom of God May 19, 2025, leaving behind a world that he helped make a better place. Born on April 28, 1938 in Forest Lake, Minnesota to parents Lewis and Lorraine, who then moved to the Roberts area where they worked on a farm and raised him, his younger sister Charlene and brother James.
Glen attended school in River Falls, Wisconsin and graduated in 1956. He attended one semester of college before joining the U.S. Navy. After recruit training, he went to The Naval Air Stations in Oklahoma and Florida to become an Aircraft Electrician. He was stationed in Oceana, Virginia aboard the aircraft carriers USS Independence and USS Randolph.
This is where he received a letter from a girl he had never met named Sallie Kollmansberger. They became pen pals and fell in love. On his first shore leave home he met her at the gas station that she worked at with her Dad, and they were engaged soon after and she became his wife of 65 years.
Glen and Sallie began building their family with a son and then added two more boys to the brood and made their home in Richfield, Minnesota. After a few odd jobs that included Lyndale Garden Center and Hoyt Construction and a try at a partnership doing aircraft instrument repair, he began a 27-year career working with industrial cranes for Jack Bjorback at J.B. Controls. After this he worked with his son doing the same kind of work at Kamtek Industrial Service up to his retirement.
Glen personified "family man" by tirelessly making every day count, doing more than most would think 24-hours in a day would allow. He balanced being a loving husband with being involved with his sons, coaching their sports teams, getting the family out camping and taking care of the home while still finding time to share with extended family and friends.
Glen was involved in more than memory allows. Playing in a bowling league, volleyball league, playing softball with Twin City Plumbing, Volunteering at church as an usher and running Marriage Builders with Sallie. They were also involved in many of the Ebeneezer Estate Sales. They drove to South Dakota for many years to help sell Scandanavian treats and other items at a festival. Glen enjoyed playing harmonica with The Silvertones as well as playing in senior centers and for Alzheimer's patients in memory care. He gave of his time, talent and treasure to anyone and anything in need, helping others where he could.
As a grandparent, Glen always made time to babysit, watch their sporting events, take the grandkids on camping adventures and be there for birthdays and graduations. Nothing was more important to him than the time he spent with his family.
He enjoyed telling jokes and stories around a fire, being outdoors camping and fishing. Glen was one of the founding members and President of The OTFA. (Ole Trout Fisherman's Association.)
Glen is survived by his beloved spouse, Sallie, and their children, Scott (Jackie), Jeff (Julie), and Todd (Sharon); grandchildren Katie, Matthew, Alexa, Mark, Brett, Benjamin, Brian, and Chad; great grandson Zayden; and sister Charlene "Char" Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Lorraine and brother Jim.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 2:00pm with visitation one hour prior beginning at 1:00pm at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 4100 Lyndale Avenue South, Minneapolis, Minnesota, 55409.
