Glen Hall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iles Westover Chapel on Nov. 18, 2024.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Glen Gerard Hall, 63, of Ankeny, Iowa, on November 16, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Glen passed away peacefully at home, in the presence of his adoring wife and children, on his father's 95th heavenly birthday.
Glen was born on January 17, 1961, in Blue Island, Illinois, to Robert and Karolyn Hall. He graduated from Drake University in 1983, where he formed lifelong friendships and a deep loyalty to his alma mater. Rain or shine, Glen could always be found at the Drake Relays (and Peggy's) with his friends or at basketball games with kids and grandkids - always cheering on his Bulldogs with pride!
On September 25, 1993, Glen married the love of his life, Kim Hall (née Esser). Known to all as "Glennie and Kimmie", their love was one for ages; giving Harry and Sally a run for their money. Because of this, they successfully blended their families, creating a life filled with love. Glen is survived by his wife, Kim; daughters Lindsay (Tyler Roose, children Knox and Nash), Courtney (Heath Ruge, children Tomlin, Tegan, Tenley, and Tallulah), and Natalie (Scott "SJ" Johnson); and son Austin (Kaity, children Mila and Landon). He is also survived by his sister Karen and his brothers Dirk, Bruce, Jeff, Cliff, Lance, and Blair.
Glen was a constant voice of reason and a steady hand in all situations, providing leadership and support in his professional life. He retired from Athene in 2023 after an accomplished 42-year career. His leadership extended into his personal life. To his friends and family, he was a rock-steady, dependable, and always there to offer guidance or a calming presence.
Glen was a dedicated member of his community. He volunteered with the United Way of Central Iowa, was a member of Tocqueville Society, served on the Board of Mercy Hospital, and donated his time to the Holy Trinity Church Finance Council for many years.
Of all his accomplishments, being a "Papa" was at the top of his list. He loved taking his grandkids on adventures: rounds of golf, trail walks, park dates and local festivals. Papa always had time to read books, color pictures and goof around.
Glen was a lifelong Chicago White Sox fan, his passion for the team never wavered (even when they did). He was an avid music lover, his taste spanning many genres. His favorites were Bruce Springsteen and The Nadas. Attending the Hinterland Music Festival added additional favorites that Glen enjoyed singing along with, such as Chappel Roan and Mt. Joy.
Glen had many passions, one of these was cycling. He enjoyed riding the trails around the Des Moines metro, often stopping at local breweries for a cold beer. He also enjoyed fishing, taking frequent trips to Wisconsin, and a few to Canada. His greatest joy, was playing golf; a game he relished with friends and family. A connoisseur of wine, Glen enjoyed collecting, tasting, and sharing his favorites with loved ones at dinner parties and family gatherings.
Glen's warmth, integrity, and generosity touched everyone who knew him and was a reflection of his devotion to his faith. He was a loving husband, father, Papa, and friend. His presence will be deeply missed.
A visitation with the family will be held on Friday, November 22 at Holy Trinity Church from 5-7 PM with a 7 PM prayer service. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 23 at 10AM with a luncheon at Hyperion Field Club to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Glen's memory to the United Way of Central Iowa.
