Wayne Brom Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iles Westover Chapel on Feb. 20, 2026.
Wayne Steven "Steve" Brom, 62, passed away on February 5, 2026, at his home in Des Moines, Iowa. There will be no formal services, however his family does plan on having a celebration of life at a later date.

Steve was born on February 23,1963, to Wayne and Ruth Brom. He graduated from Johnston High School in 1981. He spent a few years working in the restaurant business before spending 26 years with Dahls Food and finally retiring after 7 years as a custodian for Beaver Creek Elementary in Johnston, Iowa. He enjoyed working and took pride in showing up and doing each job to the absolute best of his ability.

Steve was an avid sports lover. He was proud to call himself a Chicago Bears and New York Yankees fan as his father did before him. He also loved NASCAR and his all-time favorite driver was Darrell Waltrip, but you can bet he was happy anytime a Ford driver won. He enjoyed riding his Harley even though he didn't get too much in the last few years instead he spent most of his downtime hanging out with his two pups Marley and Tucker.

Steve is survived by his wife of 44 years, Vicki Thomas Brom; his son, Michael (Jasmine) Brom; his stepsons, Steve Anderson, Anthony (Lynda) Anderson and Jeff Anderson; his mother, Ruth Gardiner Brom; his sister, Connie (Kevin) Schuttler; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Brom, both sets of grandparents and his in-laws, Phil and Mary Rose Thomas.
