Dennis John Comer, 77, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Royal Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation in Urbandale, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1230 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will take place at Beaver Catholic Cemetery in rural Granger, Iowa.
Dennis was born May 17, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa, to John and Anna (Vranich) Comer. He graduated from Johnston High School and continued his education at the University of Iowa and Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). He followed his father to Pioneer Hi-Bred International and dedicated 29 years of his career as a Farm Manager, and later worked at Prairie Meadows as a Warehouse Manager.
In 1976, Dennis married Corrine Bright, and together they built a loving home in Johnston where they raised their three children: Raeome, Jeremy, and Alycia.
Dennis lived life with energy and enthusiasm. He played semi-pro football for the Des Moines Vikings, cheered passionately for the Iowa Hawkeyes, and found joy in gardening, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with friends and family. An avid outdoorsman, he loved any activity that brought him outside, whether it was camping, tending to his garden, hunting and fishing, or simply sitting and enjoying nature. He was a constant joker who loved being social, and his humor brightened every gathering.
He had a deep appreciation for history, especially books about Vietnam and World War II, and he cherished watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Woodworking was a relaxing hobby for him, and he took pride in crafting boxes, furniture, and gifts, as well as turning pens and other trinkets that will be treasured by those who received them.
Dennis will be remembered for his zest for life, his devotion to family, and the joy he brought to everyone around him.
He is survived by his children, Raeome (John) Correy of Grimes, IA, Jeremy (Nikki) Comer of Urbandale, and Alycia Comer of Ankeny, IA; their mother, Corrine Comer; grandchildren, Madison Bailey and Sammy Holland, Simon Parks and Annika Parks, Cadence Comer, John Comer, and Jaxon Comer; great grandchildren Holly Miller and Elaina Bailey; his siblings, Jackie Cummings of Georgia, Cindy Tannatt of Colorado, and Mike (Luann) Comer of Ankeny; as well as several nieces, nephews, and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents.
