Glen Arthur Mitchell, born February 1, 1930, in Lafayette, Indiana, to Grace (Duursma) and Durillis Christofferson Mitchell, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 94.
Glen proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from December 11, 1953, to November 16, 1955. Prior to his military service, he pursued higher education at Indiana University, where he earned a Master’s degree in Accounting. A dedicated professional, Glen became a Certified Public Accountant and enjoyed a long and fulfilling career that extended into his 70s.
On February 8, 1957, Glen married the love of his life, Mary Ellen (Lunn), with whom he shared a devoted partnership spanning nearly seven decades. Together they raised two daughters: Maevis Diane Solomon (James Solomon) and Glenda Ellen Prysock. Glen was also a cherished grandfather to Michelle Eileen (Prysock) Burton (Jason Burton), William Casey Solomon (Natalie), and Joshua Mitchell Solomon (Sonia), as well as a proud great-grandfather to Connor Orion Cook, Serafina Lux Solomon, and Odyn Terry Edward Solomon.
Glen had a lifelong passion for sports and delighted in playing baseball, tennis, ping pong, golf, basketball, pool, and more with his children and grandchildren. His enthusiasm for these activities created countless treasured memories for those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Elsie Renick and brother Clifford.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 7th, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m., at Flanner Buchanan Funeral Home, 2950 N. High School Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46224. Burial will take place later that day at Marion National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
Glen’s legacy of love and dedication, wonderful sense of humor and strength of character will forever remain in the hearts of his family and all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his loss.
