Glen Peck Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Honaker Funeral Home on Feb. 2, 2026.
Glen Pleasant Peck, Jr. of the Drill community passed away at his home on Thursday, January 29, 2026. Glen, also known as Buster or Buck, was the son of Glen P. Peck, Sr. and Gracie Shepherd Peck. He was born on December 13, 1941 and had lived in the area his entire life. As with many men of his generation, he earned his livelihood as a coal miner. He often lamented his choice to drop out of school at an early age. He was determined that his daughters and grandchildren understand the importance of education. He, himself, demonstrated how education can better one's life circumstances by accepting an opportunity to attend training sponsored by his employer, Island Creek Coal Company and Southwest Virginia Community College in the mid 1970's in order to earn his underground electrical certification. He was a strong supporter of the United Mine Workers Association. He was well known as a motorcycle enthusiast and continued to ride one of his Harley Davidson bikes through last summer.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Lola Skeens, Narcie Fuller and John Fredrick Peck. He had also endured the loss of his daughter, Bobbie Jo Peck and two grandsons, Chase Ball and Brandon Lee Peck.

Glen is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ella Stump Peck, daughters, Mary Ellen Peck and husband, Alvin Deel of Honaker and Thelma Massie of Lebanon; three granddaughters, Brianna Hess and husband, Richard of Carrollton, VA, Shauna Peck of Honaker, and Lyndsey Massie of Lebanon. There are also nieces and nephews and extended family member who survive. Glen also had many friends that he had made through his motorcycle riding and was often seen as a mentor to many.

The family would like to thank those friends of Glen who continued to call and check up on him as dementia slowly erased the man that he was.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home with funeral honors provided by the UMWA Sub-28 Chaplain Corp. Family and friends will have an opportunity to share their favorite memories or stories of Glen. Entombment will follow in the Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from Noon until 1 PM.

Glen did not care for funeral floral arrangements so in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local food pantry. Glen often talked about his days as a young married man when a local storeowner allowed him to get groceries on credit. He said that without Alec Jackson's belief in him that he might have gone hungry.
