GLENDA DEHOFF Obituary

GLENDA "GAYLE" DEHOFF Glenda "Gayle" DeHoff, affectionately known as GG, passed away peacefully December 23, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well-lived. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, 5 S. 8th Street, Louisburg, Kansas 66053. Funeral service will follow at 11 am, also at the church. Burial will be held at the Louisburg Cemetery following the service. The family invites all for a luncheon at the church following the burial. Born in Texas on July 16, 1949, Gayle spent most of her life in Louisburg, Kansas, though her heart was always drawn to travel. Whether it was soaking up the sun at any beach, visiting she and Fred's children, her grandmother or aunts in their warm locations, relaxing at the family lake house, or visiting one of her properties in Branson, Gayle cherished every moment spent in the places that brought her joy. A dedicated realtor, Gayle became a beloved figure in the Kansas real estate community. Known for her personable nature and easygoing demeanor, she had an unmatched work ethic, approaching each transaction with enthusiasm and genuine passion. To Gayle, it was never just a jobit was a calling, and she made it look effortless. Her commitment to her career was matched only by her love of cooking, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. One of Gayle's greatest passions was her love for animals. She had an exceptional bond with all animals, especially her own dogs and cats, who were cherished members of her family. Whether it was caring for them, spoiling them with treats, or simply enjoying their company, Gayle's affection for animals knew no bounds. This love for animals was a perfect match to her husband Fred's career as the local veterinarian. Together, they shared a deep connection to the animals they cared for, embodying a partnership built on compassion and a shared love for all living creatures. Gayle also had a lifelong appreciation for life's simple pleasures. During her college years, she enjoyed creating her own clothing, showcasing her love for fashion and design. She later earned a degree in home economics, where she developed a deep passion for cooking. Though she never pursued a professional culinary career, she delighted in preparing meals for family and friends, generously sharing her talents with those she loved. Gayle was a true friend to all who knew her and was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Gayle was preceded in death by her parents, William and Naomi, whose love and guidance helped shape the woman she became. She is survived by her loving husband, Fred DeHoff; children, Brandy Kalinka, and Kristin and Jeremiah Ross; grandchildren, Lindy, Tyson, Ellie, Jimmy, Branden, Harrison, Kaleb, Jaxtin, and Sam; great-grandchildren, Homer, Maddox, Adalyn, Ridley, and Isla; brothers, Gary and Gregg; and many dear friends and extended family members. Gayle's easygoing, fun-loving nature, and free spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Gayle's memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were touched by her warmth, kindness, and love for all creatures. A mantra that Gayle would share with her daughters, husband, and anyone that would listen was "Will this really matter in ten years?" This wisdom grounded in perspective, was a testament to the way she lived her life with ease, joy and a deep sense of peace. REMEMBERING GAYLE DEHOFF

I met Gayle at a Louisburg fund raiser and adoption event for animals. Big surprise. Since I was a Paola lawyer, I didn´t have very deep connections to Lousiburg. Imagine how impressed I was that my first dear Louisburg friend was Gayle DeHoff. She made everyone special. We eventually joined hands to raise Miami County´s capacity to care for abandoned animals. We served together on the Prairie Paws Board of Directors for several years where she continued her generous ways both giving time and talent to fund raising.

At the same time she sought to expand the Louisburg´s community footprint for supporting local artists by joining the Miami Arts Coalition. She sponsored the Coalition´s effort to open a second art gallery in Lousiburg at her real estate offices where she provided free space, free utilities, free security and administrative support to the Coalition. Without Gayle there would never have been a Reflections East Art Gallery in Lousiburg. She particularly admired the Coalition´s efforts to trigger support for LHS art students and art educators.

Most of all Gayle shared her passion for loyalty to family and friends with me. She allowed me to accompany her to visit her mother at Vintage Park. We had a few wine and cheese events at her home. She and Fred were a dynamic and loyal couple supporting each other at every turn. It is so easy to write and admire them. Gayle´s footprint will not be forgotten.
