Glenda "Bit" Hollaway Hodges, 90, of Woodville, AL passed away Friday, November 29, 2024 at Highlands Hospital, Scottsboro, AL.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Scottsboro Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Freeman and Rev. Delbert Redditt officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Woodville. The family will receive friends on Monday beginning at 12:00 noon until time of service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Roy Hodges; son, Steve Hodges; parents, Thomas and Mattie Hollaway; brothers, Cecil, Goode and Horace Hollaway; and sister, Bonnie Gray. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Marion "Mar" Hodges, several nieces and nephews, Woodville Baptist Church family and many friends.
Mrs. Hodges was born in Pleasant View, AL and grew up in Woodville, AL. She attended Pisgah Elementary School, Woodville High School, Northeast Alabama Community College, the University of Alabama Huntsville and the University of Wisconsin.
Mrs. Hodges had a varied professional background. She served in clerical capacities, taught school and served as therapist for the Jackson, Dekalb, Marshall County Mental Health Center. She worked for the Federal Government in administration, the technical division and became the first female Project Manager of World Wide Projects.
Mrs. Hodges received several awards and recognitions such as the Achievement Medal for Civilian Service from the United States Army Corps of Engineers, a letter of commendation from the Department of Defense. After retiring from government service, she was a consultant for the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Mayor of Woodville for four years, a Silver Haired Legislator for two terms, Alabama Golden Eagle Statesman of the Year 2006 and qualified as a Certified Municipal Official. She also served as District Four Commissioner of Jackson County for eight years.
Mrs. Hodges was also a member of several professional organizations such as the Greater Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Jackson County 21st Century Committee and Impact Learning Center Board of Directors. She supported the March of Dimes, Cancer and Heart Research. She also participated in Oxford Round Table Discussions in England.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Hodges to Woodville Baptist Church or Impact Learning Center.
