Glenda Jacobs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Radney Funeral Home - Alexander City on Jan. 16, 2026.
Memorial Service for Ms. Glenda Avery Jacobs, 79, of Alexander City, will be Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 3:00 pm at the First Baptist Church Alexander City. Dr. Steve King will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church Alexander City.

Glenda Sue Avery Jacobs, a beacon of laughter and faith, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. Born into the Avery family, Glenda's life was a testament to her enduring spirit and generous heart. She leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, and unwavering faith that will continue to shine in the lives of those she touched.

Glenda graduated with honors from Benjamin Russell High School in 1964, where she was a proud member of the National Honor Society. Her intellect and work ethic led her to a fulfilling career that began at Alex City bank as a secretary to Judge C.J. Coley. She later joined Russell Corp. and Russell Athletic, where she served for 26 years as an Executive Assistant to E. C. Gwaltney and Barney Wachtel. Glenda's professional journey continued as a property manager for Bruno Capital Management until she concluded her career at the Law office of Radney, Radney, and Jackson in 2012.

Her dedication to her community was evident through her involvement as a founding member of the Beacon Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church and as the chairman of the Original Founding Committee of Jacob's Ladder at FUMC. Her Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her.

Glenda's enthusiasm for life was contagious. She was an avid Tennessee fan, relishing the opportunity to attend games with her brother and his family. Her social calendar was filled with lunches with the Ladies of Hillabee and meetings with the Happy Hearts Club at First Baptist Church. Glenda's commitment to service shone through her active participation in the Shoebox Ministry. In quieter moments, she found joy in reading and cherished time spent with her beloved cat, Peanut.

Described by those who knew her best as funny, spirited, and faith-filled, Glenda's humor and zest for life never failed to uplift those around her. Her nurses always felt entertained by her silly disposition.

Glenda is survived by a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her son, Mark (Donna) Kilgore; daughter, Monica (Brad) Anderson; son, Butch (Cara) Jacobs; grandchildren, Cody (Holly) Kilgore, Brandi (Chris) Rogeaux, Matthew (Taylor) Anderson, Carden Jacobs, and Mary Holland Jacobs; great-grandchildren, Carson Gates, Wyatt Rogeaux, and Haille Rogeaux; brothers, Darrell (Nita) Avery and Jessi Avery; and her special friend, Walter Lowery. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Troy Max Jacobs; her father, Jesse Avery; her mother, Cordelia Vernon Avery-Scott; and her son, Tyler Kilgore.

Glenda Sue Avery Jacobs lived a life that overflowed with laughter, love, and unshakeable faith. Her memory will be treasured and her presence sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, P O Box 42040, Oklahoma City, OK, 73123-3000 or St. Jude's, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
