Published by Forest Lawn - Covina Hills on Sep. 17, 2018.
Glenn Carpenter, beloved husband and father, passed away surrounded by his loved ones peacefully at home on September 17, 2018. Glenn was born in Los Angeles on November 29, 1942. He attended Milllican High School in Long Beach (Class of 1960) and joined the Marines after graduation. He married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Skillman on January 11, 1963. Following the Marines, Glenn attended Long Beach State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1967. In July of 1964 son Scott was born and daughter Christine followed in July of 1967. Glenn's business career, after a brief time as a dance instructor for Arthur Miller Dance Studios, began in the construction industry, including service with the Robert H. Grant Company, a multistate developer of real estate. From 1970 to 1994, he served as the President and Chief Executive Officer, as well as held other officer positions, at Santa Anita Realty Enterprises Inc., a publicly traded real estate investment company which owned the Santa Anita Racetrack in Arcadia California as well as other real estate properties. Glenn founded Pacific Gulf Properties Inc., a real estate investment trust owning various types of real property, in 1994 and served as its Chief Executive Officer until its sale in 2001. At the time of the sale of Pacific Gulf, Glenn founded FountainGlen Properties, LP and served as its Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. FountainGlen developed, owned and operated a portfolio of active senior apartments and sold its portfolio in 2005. Glenn truly loved the FountainGlen venture as it was a business based on his experience helping his grandfather with the difficulties of housing for seniors. He was an Independent Director of NNN Realty Advisors Inc., an Independent Director of Grubb & Ellis Company and an Independent Director of G REIT Liquidating Trust (Formerly, G REIT Inc.). He sat on the Board of Councilors of the School of Gerontology at the University of Southern California, Irvine and was a council member of the American Seniors Housing Association and Urban Land Institute. Glenn received numerous honors in the real estate field including the 2000 Real Estate Man of the Year Award and was voted the 1999 Orange County Entrepreneur of the Year for real estate. After the passing of his childhood sweetheart Sharon in 2006, Glenn contemplated retirement and explored the various opportunities which came his way. In 2008, Glenn met Patricia Hart, who brought a smile and a dance step back into his life and they married In May of 2010. In retirement he enjoyed his days playing golf, traveling throughout the world, "helping" Patricia with the equestrian life and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia, his son Scott and his wife Julie, his daughter Christine, her husband Dave, and Glenn's grandchildren Matthew and Ryan.
