Obituary published on Legacy.com by Click Funeral Home - Lenoir City on Jun. 28, 2025.
It is with a solemn yet hopeful heart that Glenn, surrounded by his family, became absent from his body to be present with his Lord on Friday evening, June 27th, 2025. Glenn was a faithful child of God and member of Highland Park Baptist Church.
Glenn was born on September 27, 1937 in
Lenoir City, TN to the late Pink and Georgia Garrison. In 1960, he married his long-time love of 65 years, Helen Lyles. They were blessed with 3 children: Glenda Garrison Thomas (Benjie), Rick Garrison (Polly), Melanie Garrison Crook (James), and special nephew Jimmy Garrison, all of
Lenoir City, TN.
Glenn graduated from Lenoir City High School in 1956. In 1960, Glenn and Helen moved to Gary, Indiana where Glenn worked in the steel factory and the railroad. After moving back to Lenoir City in 1969, Glenn worked for Maremont. He also worked with his brother Julius "Judi" Garrison at the Sunoco gas station on Broadway in Lenoir City. In 1995, Glenn retired from Maremont, where he was the night shift plant supervisor. After retiring from Maremont, Glenn cared for others, whether that be taking the ill to their appointments or helping carpool his grandchildren to and from school. He worked for CD&M Construction as a grounds-keeper for the commercial properties. Additionally, Glenn served as custodian for Highland Park Baptist Church from 1995 to 2013. Glenn exhibited quite a work ethic, often working 2 jobs to provide for his family. That man never knew how to just sit. It was often said he enjoyed his retirement years by working.
Glenn could always be found serving others in some capacity, such as riding the student ministry bus and going on mission trips with Highland Park Baptist Church or keeping watch over his family and friends or just lending a helping hand to anyone that needed it. Glenn loved the outdoors, whether it was riding a mower or just sitting in the sun drinking his black coffee. Glenn enjoyed his yearly beach trips and for a time, was able to enjoy weekend camping trips.
Glenn had many hobbies through the years; boating, water skiing, playing cards, golfing, eating ice cream, and drinking coffee with his friends. Don't let Glenn's sly smile fool you, he was quite the card shark. Glenn was quiet, and he spoke when he was spoken to. He was funny and could make you laugh until you cry. His smile was big and bright and would light up a room. He took eating very seriously and didn't like a lot of play and foolishness at the dinner table. If you ever sat down to eat and there was a grandbaby around, he would not allow talking or chatter for fear "that baby is gonna get choked". If you needed him, he was always there.
Glenn and his twin brother Lynn were the youngest of 5 children, he loved and was loved by all his siblings. He leaves behind his one sister, Wilma Jean Hulin of Lenoir City. In addition to his parents and grandparents, he is predeceased by his brothers Julius "Judi" Garrison, twin brother Lynn Garrison, half brother CJ Cason, and great grandson Brody Garrison.
In addition to his wife and children, Glenn leaves behind his grandchildren: Rhodney Garrison (Megan Duncan), Dustin Thomas, Ashley Thomas, Stephanie Garrison Garrett (Tyler), Megan Thomas Stauder (Steve), Courtney Crook, Maggie Crook (Michael Hickle); great grandchildren: Liam, Paislee, Peyton, Isabella, Lyric, Emily, Jerica, and Journee; sister in-law and brother-in-law Bobbie and Red Durham, special friends Linda and Donnie Wolfe, Brenda and Ronnie Starritt, and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. Glenn is going to be missed beyond measure. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Covenant Home Care and Amedisys Hospice Care, especially Nurse Syndi and Chaplain James Brown, for helping us take care of the strongest and most stubborn man; the fighter we were blessed to call husband, daddy, papaw, brother, uncle, and friend.
Pallbearers: Rhodney Garrison, Dustin Thomas, Michael Hickle, Ronnie Starritt, Art Hulin, Tyler Garrett, and Liam Thomas. Honorary pallbearers: Jimmy Garrison, Tyler Garrett, James Garrison, Donnie Wolfe
In lieu of flowers, the family desires donations to be made to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, as this was a cause Glenn held very dear to his heart.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 29th at Highland Park Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 3:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. Eddie Click, and nephews Rev. Donny Crass and Rev. Tony Collins Graveside to follow at Loudon County Memorial Gardens.
