Glenn William Genzel, 89 of Buckley, died at 1:13 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2025, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Buckley with Rev. Jeff McPike officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Buckley.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 306 E. Lincoln, Buckley.
Glenn was born October 26, 1935, in Cissna Park the son of Christy A. and Myrtle M. Crozier Genzel, Sr. He married Alice Ann Krumwiede December 18, 1959, in Shawneetown. She survives.
Along with his wife, Alice, he is survived by a son, Troy Genzel of Buckley, a daughter, Toni (Robert) Skaggs of West Lafayette, Indiana, eight grandchildren Tory Genzel, Nicole Sondgerath, Kristy Jordan, Kaylee Peterson, Connor Genzel, Gabe Mills, Matthew Derrick, William Derrick, seven great grandchildren, a sister, Rose Anna Genzel Frichtl of Bloomington, two brothers Lee (Martha) Genzel of Buckley, Dale (Delores) Genzel of St. Charles, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Robin Lee Genzel, a daughter Teresa Genzel Derrick, three brothers, Christy Genzel, Jr., Earl Genzel, Merle Genzel and a sister, Lily Mae Ditman.
Glenn attended Buckley-Loda High School. He was a general contractor for more than 70 years which included Genzel Housemoving, Genzel Brothers Construction and Glenn Genzel General Contractor. He built 13 post offices, 6 banks, 3 churches, many houses and remodeled homes.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served as chairman, trustee and elder. He was past-president and board member of the Buckley-Loda High School for 16 years and also active in the Buckley Youth Baseball, Little League and Pony League for more than 16 years.
Glenn's volunteer work included the Buckley Welcome signs, Sesquicentennial 2006 brick wall, concrete flower boxes on Main Street and baseball dugouts. He made wooden church lighted boxes as a fundraiser to restore the church stained glass windows, made the wooden roll top desk for the sound system and the church elevator.
He enjoyed Cubs baseball, Indy Car Racing and NASCAR racing.
