Glenn Lyle Greenfield

Glenn Greenfield, age 54 of Sibley, Iowa, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2025 at his home in Sibley.  

Visitation will be Friday, July 25th from 4:00 to 5:00 PM, at First Presbyterian Church New Testament Hall.  A celebration of life will start at 5:00 PM.

Glenn Greenfield was born November 3, 1970, the son of Gilbert and Leanne (Dirks) Greenfield.  Glenn grew up in Allendorf, IA before moving to a farm halfway between Sibley and Ocheyedan. He graduated from Sibley-Ocheyedan High School where he developed what would become lifelong friendships and a deep love of football. Some of his closest high school friends known as “the fellas” met annually to continue sharing in each other’s lives beyond their high school memories. Though the football team didn’t win a single game in four years, Glenn’s tenacity and talent playing both sides of the ball earned him a scholarship to play at Northwestern College in Orange City, IA where he graduated from in 1994.

Glenn’s first marriage brought his three incredible children Sara, Grant, and Garret. From going to see George Strait in Las Vegas with Sara to traveling the country following Grant and Garret’s collegiate football careers, Glenn was always most proud of the hardworking, kind, and faithful children and now grandchildren - Madelyn, Hattie, Graham, and Mazie - God blessed him with.

Glenn worked in banking, construction, insurance, and most recently built his own business, Greenfield Insurance LLC, from the ground up. His grit, problem solving, and desire to help others attributed to his successful business and career endeavors.

When Glenn’s “plus one” Denise couldn’t find him at their home, he could usually be found at Ed and Leona Meendering’s shop working on his latest woodworking project. If lucky enough to receive any of Glenn’s custom creations, you know how beautiful, creative, and solid his pieces were. In alignment with his personal values, Glenn’s best work often came from old, otherwise discarded pallet wood. Whether a river table to accent someone’s home, two life-size working replica of canons for the S-O marching band, or a sentimental piece of art to capture one of life’s milestones, Glenn saw material that was set aside and created pieces that were both practical and beautiful. In his own life and in the hope of redemption in the lives of others, Glenn was never one to give up on anyone or anything until the very end.

Perseverance continued as a guiding theme in his life as he influenced countless individuals in their sobriety and recovery from addictive diseases. His impact reached far beyond his own sobriety and continues to positively impact countless people in recovery. The permanent necklace he wore exemplified this as it included a horseshoe and cross because of his deep belief that all you need in this life is “God and a little luck.”

In addition to ranching, hunting, a rare antique find, his truck, or cooking a delicious meal for loved ones, Glenn loved searching for a coveted copper or crock item with Denise, spending time with his family and grandchildren, and cracking the wittiest jokes with anyone who needed a laugh.

To truly know Glenn, also known as “Gus” and “GooGoo”, was to love him. His authenticity and encouragement to walk the straight and narrow was undeniable. His legacy will forever be the lives he touched as he helped people overcome adversity with humor, faith, and quiet strength.

Glenn was preceded in death by his grandparents Lyle and LaVonne Dirks and Garret and Helen Greenfield.

Glenn is survived by his children Sara (Ben) Ehret, Grant (Megan) Greenfield, Garret (Brielle) Greenfield; four grandchildren; “plus one” Denise; parents, Gilbert and Leanne Greenfield; brothers, Gary Greenfield and Greg (Christina) Greenfield; niece, Kelli Greenfield; nephew, Gage Greenfield; and numerous extended family members.
