Roland Roelfs age 67, of Sibley, IA, died suddenly on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 28th, at the United Methodist Church in Sibley.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 29, 2025, at the United Methodist Church in Sibley, with Pastors Brad and Sue Hicks officiating.
Burial will follow the service in the Gilman Township Cemetery of Ashton, IA.
Roland Ray Roelfs was born on March 19, 1958, in Sibley, IA, the son of Ralph and Bertha (Lamfers) Roelfs. He grew up on a farm near Ashton, Iowa and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1976. On October 27, 1995, he was united in marriage to Kris Selken, and his family grew by adding two daughters, Stacey and Sarah. Roland had a daughter, Michelle, from a previous marriage.
Roland worked for Chase Bag for forty-seven years and when he retired the company name was Hood Packaging. He was a member of the United Methodist Church where he served as the head usher and helped at the fair stand for the church at the Osceola County Fair. He also had been a member of the Southwest Bowbenders in Worthington, MN. Roland taught for the JOAD program (Junior Olympic Archery Development Program). He was an avid woodworker, an enthusiastic Green Bay Packers fan, and loved to help his brother, Roy, on the farm. He enjoyed feeding squirrels and taking trips with his family. Roland liked spending time with his nieces and nephews. He had a special bond with Andrew, Adam, Samantha, and Daniel.
He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Kris Roelfs of Sibley, IA; daughters, Stacey (Shawn) Lichtsinn-Schmidt, and Sarah (Conner) Tuttle both of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Michelle (Tony) Vander Pol of Kansas; and two grandsons, Brandon and Matthew Roelfs; two brothers, Bill Roelfs of Sanborn, IA, and Roy (Sandy) Roelfs of Sanborn, IA; sister-in-law, Vicky (Craig) Halverson of Sioux Falls, SD; and nieces and nephews, Amy, Scott, Chad and Ashley; Andrew and Adam; and Samantha and Daniel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Bertha Roelfs; brother-in-law, Kelley Selken; mother-in-law, Marge Selken; sister-in-law, Eileen Roelfs; and great-nephew, Reegan Roelfs.
