Glenn Hasby, 95, Minot, died Monday, August 26, 2024, in his home.
Glenn Loren Hasby was born September 5, 1928 to Oscar and Josephine (Lund) Hasby in Nekoma, North Dakota. He was raised on the family farm and educated like most in those days in a country school through the eighth grade. He was one of six children and went to work early to help support the family. He later earned his GED. Following his formal school years, Glenn worked as a farmhand for local area farmers. This work ethic would remain with him for the rest of his life.
Glenn married Lilah Norby on October 22, 1950 at Sanish Lutheran Church. He said he knew he would marry her from the first time he saw her. They made their home in New Town, ND and were blessed with three daughters, Glendine, Lorna and Mary Helen.
Glenn was drafted into the US Army in 1951 and served until his honorable discharge in 1952, due to a childhood eye injury that could not be corrected.
Following his military service, Glenn worked to build the old Four Bears Bridge, Sanitation for the City of New Town, and operated his own trucking business with Buckingham Transport until starting his own business, Lakeside Dairy, serving New Town and Parshall communities with door-to-door delivery service of milk, buttermilk, butter, cream, half and half, and sour cream. He also serviced the schools with milk, and restaurants with food. He drove the school bus every day and many times to sporting events in all kinds of weather. He also worked at the elevator in New Town.
Glenn and Lilah moved to Minot in 1976. Together they owned and operated Sunshine Grocery in northwest Minot, near the college, until Glenn's retirement in 1991. Glenn was not one to sit still; he enjoyed working and meeting and visiting with people. During his retirement years he assisted his daughter, Mary Helen, at Cookies for You, by delivering cookie bouquets for 17 years. Lilah died on October 16, 2020.
A highlight in Glenn's life was he and Lilah's trips to Norway where they visited relatives and later hosted and entertained their Norwegian relatives in Minot. They took them to the towns and cemeteries where relatives from Norway lived and were buried, and also places of interest in North Dakota. In addition to traveling, he enjoyed woodworking, even demonstrating for Sears during Christmas, served as an officer for Sons of Norway, worked on Election Boards, counseled startup businesses through SCORE, was a member of Scandinavian Heritage, gave tours through the park, and hung Christmas lights on the many trees in the park. He and Lilah volunteered for many years at the rommegrot booth for First Lutheran Church at the yearly Hostfest. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in New Town, First Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church, both in Minot. Glenn served as an usher and on Church Council at each church. His faith was very important to him, and he and Lilah attended church regularly. He always had to wear a suit and tie to show respect for the Lord. They attended many church conventions out of state and reported back to the church what they learned, and Glenn drove the bus of young campers from First Lutheran Church to the Boundary Waters church camp in MN for several years.
Glenn will be remembered for his caring demeanor, strong work ethic, and kindness to everyone who shared in his life. He loved talking with people, seeing them smile, and visiting over a cup of coffee.
He is survived by his children, Glendine (Dan) O'Brien, Aurora, CO; Lorna (Mike) Pusc, New Town, ND; and Mary Helen Hasby (Phil Schultz), Minot, ND; grandchildren, Matthew (Jaime) Hasby, San Diego, CA; Sarah (Darcy) Lehr, Devils Lake, ND; Amanda Pusc, Bismarck, ND; Emily (Kevin) Welz, Afton, MN; Jacqueline Pusc (James Gleich), Wilton, ND; great grandchildren, Kade, Landon, Grayson, Wyatt, Calvin, Dexter, Cayden, Rheya and Liberty; sister: Ollie Brenna, Minot; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and many Norby family relatives.
Glenn was preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 70 years, Lilah; parents Oscar and Josephine Hasby (Froshaug), and stepdad Martin Froshaug; siblings, Gordon (Evelyn)Hasby, June (Boyd) Froshaug, Kenneth (Jeannine) Hasby, Opal (Leonard Garness) (Ernie) Yuzicapi; and brother-in-law, Clayton Brenna; and parents-in-law Eddie and Alma Norby.

Visitation: Thursday, September 5th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: Good Hope Cemetery, Rural Keene.
Memorials are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, or the local chapter of the Sons of Norway.
