GLENN HUGH KNIGHT
August 10, 1942 - April 6, 2025
Glenn Hugh Knight (82) passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, in Boaz, Alabama.
He was born on August 10, 1942, in Fyffe, Alabama. Glenn graduated from Fyffe High School in 1960 and married his sweetheart, Martha Petty Knight on November, 15, 1964.
Glenn enlisted in the Army National Guard on November 26, 1965, in Collinsville, Alabama. Later, he transferred to Fort Payne, Alabama, to join the 151st Engineering Battalion. He spent his time there as a shovel crane operator. He was certified as a sharpshooter in September 1970 and was honorably discharged, ranking as a Specialist 4 after six years of service on November 25,1971.
While simultaneously growing a young family and building a growing farm, Glenn also worked at Revere Copper and Brass in Scottsboro, Alabama. He was a maintenance supervisor from the late sixties until the summer of 1982.
Before moving to Grove Oak, Alabama, Glenn and Martha had lived in homes in Fyffe, Alabama and Rainville, Alabama. His hopes and dreams had become a reality in the summer of 1977 when Glenn, Martha, Lisa and Steve moved to the Glenn Knight Farm. The years quickly passed and the family of four traveled throughout the country, mixing business and pleasure, with a true Glenn signature style. In July of 1999, Glenn and Martha were blessed with their only grandchild, Drew, who quickly became a sidekick on the farm helping "PawPaw" with the cows and riding shotgun.
While farming, Glenn also began to acquire tractor trailers for transporting grain. The Knight Farm quickly expanded to become a thriving independent trucking operation which continued until the Fall of 2022.
Glenn lived his life as a true example of the Christian faith and served faithfully as a Deacon at Kelly's Chapel Church for over fifty years.
He is survived by his daughter Lisa Knight Laney of Arab, Alabama; son Steve Robert Knight of Phoenix, Arizona; grandson Andrew Laney of Atlanta, Georgia; and sister Virginia Heard of
Rainsville, Alabama, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Glenn was preceded in death by wife Martha Petty Knight; parents Leon and Ena Knight; siblings L.B. (Ruth) Knight and Christine (Dempsey) Knott; and nephew David Bruce Knight.
Known for his quiet spirit, gentle humor, strong work ethic, and his business savvy, he was loved by family, community members, peers, employees alike. Glenn loved his John Deere tractors, classic cars, crops, cows, and trucks, but his love for his family was the driving force at the center of his huge heart. The impact of his generous love is immeasurable and will be felt for generations to come. Glenn Hugh Knight's legacy continues
