Glenn Lackey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lewis Funeral Chapel - Fort Smith on Aug. 22, 2023.
Glenn Fay Lackey passed away from this life on August 19th at the age of 78 in Fort Smith, AR. He was born August 13, 1945, in Fort Smith, the youngest son of Homer Eugene and Thelma Lackey. Glenn is preceded in death by his parents and his older brothers Dyarl and Gerald Lackey.
Glenn leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 56 years Joyce Lackey (Bugg) of Fort Smith, son Sean Lackey and wife Laura Lackey of Houston, TX, daughter Kay Lynn Bui and husband Lap Bui of Fort Smith, AR, granddaughter Gracie Bui of Fort Smith AR, sister Kay Rogers and husband Bill Rogers of Van Buren AR, and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Glenn and Joyce met when they were 16 while out cruising Fort Smith. They were married 6 years later in 1967 after Glenn had finished college and began his first career as a teacher in Arkoma, OK. After 10 months of marriage, Glenn was drafted into the U.S. Army. After postings at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA and Sandia Base in Albuquerque, NM, he returned to Fort Smith and Arkoma schools to continue teaching as an English teacher, high school principal and finally superintendent of Arkoma schools. He touched many lives there and was fondly remembered by his students. His second career began when he accepted a position with Hiram Walker and Sons in Fort Smith, AR.
After 20 years with them, he retired at age 55. Never content to sit around the house, he took a job with Kohl's department store in Fort Smith for several years while he waited for Joyce to also retire. Glenn and Joyce traveled extensively, visiting all but two states over the years.
Glenn was an avid lifetime reader, always buying and trading novels, always found with a good book by his chair. He loved history, enjoyed watching the History Channel and most of all spending time with family and friends. Above all else, Glenn dearly loved his wife, children, and granddaughter.
A celebration of Glenn's life will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Lewis Funeral Home in Fort Smith with Deacon John Burns officiating. Internment with military honors will be at Steep Hill Cemetery in Fort Smith. Pallbearers will be Sean Lackey, Lap Bui, Joe Moon, Lon Carl Bugg, Brian Bugg, and Keith Bugg. Honorary pallbearers will be Laura Lackey, Jim Kolb, Darren Lackey,
The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel 4817 Kelley Hwy in Fort Smith. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or American Lung Association.

I shall always remember Glenn as a friendly, kind, compassionate, and sympathetic man. He truly loved his family. He´s with the angels and Heavenly Father and no longer in pain or discomfort. This quote was shared with me: "A life is never over until all the lives it had touched is over too". God bless you and your family.

My older brother & Glenn were classmates & good friends. My brother passed away at the age of 14, Glenn was a pallbearer. I was also a student of Glenn's. A very good man! Praying for the entire family.
