Glenn Owen Smith of Del City, Oklahoma, passed away on October 18, 2023 at the age of 92. He was born on May 8, 1931, in Newcastle, OK, to Francis and Rosa (Dodd) Smith. The family settled in Norman, OK, during his childhood, where Glenn graduated high school and then earned a mechanical engineering degree at the University of Oklahoma, where he was a member of the USAF ROTC. Glenn proudly served as an officer in the United States Air Force, after which he got married, moved to Missouri, and began a lengthy civilian career. After moving with his family back to Oklahoma, he worked for decades as a mechanical engineer at Tinker Air Force Base, from where he eventually retired.
Glenn had a passion for playing the guitar that was enjoyed and appreciated by all who knew him, and for many years, he also enjoyed square dancing and traveling with his wife, Lorene. He was very handy with both mechanical and electronic systems and devices, and enjoyed tinkering with things and doing household and automotive repairs.
Glenn is survived by his loving children, Sylvia Baker (husband Gregg) and Russ Smith (wife Jennifer), as well as his five grandchildren Chris Smith, Rachel Smith, Megan Carver, Nik Smith and Asha Smith, and his late sister's children, Ronnie Sullivan, Barbara Gilbert, Darrell Sullivan and Harold Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Robyn Smith née Wallace, his second wife, W. Lorene Smith née Van Gilder, his parents, his sister Hazel Ruth Sullivan, and his son Allan Smith.
In accordance with his wishes, Glenn will be cremated, and a private get-together of family will be planned to celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation in Glenn's name. This foundation supports music education programs and would be a meaningful way to honor Glenn's love for music.

My brother Gene Cornelison, met Glenn when then entered Norman Junior High and they became best friends remaining so until Gene´s death in 1964.
My sister, Dorothy Byers and I made contact with Glenn after Lorene´s death.
He actually found us through Facebook and we enjoyed stories about he, Jim Gardner and Gene. Glenn shared some pictures with us. We knew the guys but we were much younger.
Of course Glenn told us about Robyn, Lorene, his children and grandchildren.
We talked often on Facebook and my sister and her husband went by to see Glenn this past summer which delighted him.
We had not heard from Glenn so I a message to him but no response so I asked Dorothy tonight and checked his Facebook page and then checked legacy.com and found his obituary.
