Glenn Arthur Smith, of Hendersonville, born on August 27, 1948, in Fairfax County, Virginia, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026, in
Hendersonville, North Carolina, at the age of 77.
Glenn was a dedicated and hardworking individual, whose career included serving as an antique dealer and later retiring from Fairfax County Solid Waste. In his younger days, he was known for his adventurous spirit as an avid rollercoaster rider.
Glenn Arthur Smith proudly and honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army during the tumultuous years of the Vietnam War. His time in service was marked by extraordinary dedication, bravery, and selflessness, for which he was highly decorated.
Among the numerous prestigious medals he earned, Glenn was a recipient of The Air Medal. This commendation was bestowed upon him in recognition of his courageous and successful completion of twenty-five vital aerial missions flown into hostile territories, often under intense enemy fire. Furthermore, his exceptional contributions to the military effort were recognized with The Army Commendation Medal, which he received for contributing significantly and materially to the overall success of the allied effort in Southeast Asia.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Moncure Smith; his mother, Dorothy Dolores Smith; and his brother, Ronald L. Smith.
Glenn is survived by his brother, Jerry L. Smith, and his wife, Rebecca; his sister-in-law, Robin Smith; his aunt, "Aunt Pat" Richardson; his niece, Wendy Desilets; and his nephews, Mark, Matthew, and Brian Smith; cousins, Charles Richardson, Sharon McKnight and Diane Richardson. He also leaves behind several great-nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory. Glenn was blessed with much-loved close friends, Jim and Donna Maglione, and Sydney McMath, who were like family to him.
Glenn will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the joy he brought into the lives of those around him. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
