Glenn F. Suchomel, age 83, of Chelsea, Iowa, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2025, at Northbrook Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, at the Plumbers & Fitters Local 125 hall, 5001 J St. SW, Suite 200 in Cedar Rapids. Private interment will follow.
Glenn Franklin Suchomel was born Jan. 25, 1942, the son of Wesley and Julia E. (Bartos) Suchomel in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He attended St. Ludmila's Catholic School, Wilson High School, and Jefferson High School and earned his diploma from Kirkwood Community College. As a boy and young man, he enjoyed hunting, boating, and fishing, hobbies that he continued for most of his life. Glenn entered training as a Steamfitter Apprentice in 1963, receiving his Journeyman Plumber license in 1967 and his Master Plumber license in 1972. He was a proud and active member of United Association Local 125 for 62 years.
Glenn and his former spouse, Sandra J. (Sandy) Jenkins, were united in marriage Oct. 26, 1963, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. They became the parents of three children, Lynn Jean, Lisa Kay and Lora Lee, grandparents of eight, and great-grandparents of eleven.
Glenn was employed as a plumber and pipefitter for 37 years and owned and operated Steel Seal in Cedar Rapids for a time. After retirement, he owned and operated Suchomel Engraving, a specialty sandblasting and engraving company he ran as a hobby. He also enjoyed construction work, repairing and refurbishing vehicles and machinery, spending time with friends, and visiting area casinos. Glenn was also a former Knights of Columbus member.
Glenn is survived by his former spouse, Sandy Suchomel of Cedar Rapids; children Lynn Suchomel of Cedar Rapids, Lisa (Rodney) Reicks of Rochester, Minn., and Lora (Donnie) Lowery of Tebbetts, Mo.; grandchildren Abby (Justin) Beltz of Cedar Rapids, Cassandra (Derek) Brester of Holts Summit, Mo., Stephanie (John) Bisges of Jefferson City, Mo., Molly (Ben) Stewart of Jefferson City, Mo., Julia Reicks of Orlando, Fla., and Elizabeth Reicks of Belgrade, Mont.; step-granddaughter Jessie Shulte of Jefferson City, Mo.; eleven great-grandchildren/step great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Darlene Suchomel of Cedar Rapids; many nieces and nephews; and longtime friend Phyllis McIntyre of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Julia (Bartos) Suchomel; former father- and mother-in-law George W. Jr. and Ova B. (Cunningham) Jenkins; brothers and sisters-in-law Albert (LaVonne) Suchomel, and Harold (Dolores) Suchomel; sister and brother-in-law Ruth (Donald) Hunter; brother Leon Suchomel; and step-grandson Robert Lowery.
