Glenn E. Whitman, age 84, passed away peacefully in his home on September 15, 2025, in Marion, IA. He was born in Iowa City, IA, to Earl and Mabel Whitman. A Celebration of Life to honor Glenn will take place at a later date. Services and interment will be held privately.

Glenn was a graduate of Solon High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Navy, serving four years before transferring to the Air Force. His sixteen-year service with the USAF included earning several honors and medals in addition to being a Radioman during the Vietnam War. After twenty plus years of service, he retired rank: TSGT/ specialty Radio Operations Supervisor.

Glenn was a man who loved quietly, but fiercely. He was graciously generous, dependable, and loyal to those close to him. His straightforward demeanor and unique sense of humor will be remembered by those that knew him. Glenn was an avid Hawkeye fan, enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball, Pittsburg Steeler football, and all things history. He found joy in hobbies that tapped into his creativity and thirst for knowledge. Stories of long drives on the open road in his GTO reflected his adventurous spirit. Above all, he found pleasure in family get-togethers; particularly those that included chocolate cake, fudge, and euchre.

Glenn is survived and missed by his daughter, Diana Whitman; grandchildren, Morgan (Aaron) Way and Taylor Jeffrey; great-grandchild, Brooke Way; sister, Dorothy (William) Stork; sisters-in-law, Jean Anne Whitman and Janice Majors, as well as a host of nieces and nephews with whom he had special relationships with each.

He is preceded in death by his parents Earl Whitman and Mabel Whitman Sueppel; son, David Whitman; brother, Clair Whitman; sister-in-law, Janette Whitman; and brothers, Arlo Whitman and Kenneth Whitman.

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Glenn and the Whitman family. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended but for the way it was lived and for profound impact he had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Memorial contributions may be sent to: St. Lukes Hospice Foundation (In-patient/Out-patient services). There are no words that can express how grateful we are to the Unity Point staff that lovingly supported Glenn and his family during his final transition.
