Glenna Booker Obituary

Glenna Faye Putnam Booker was born March 10, 1929 to Lula Belle Hamilton Putnam and Andrew Jackson Putnam in the family home at 608 West Church Street in Mason, Ohio. She was the seventh of nine children born to the couple and was the last surviving sibling until her death on August 23, 2023.

While attending Mason High School, Glenna began working alongside her mother as a switchboard operator for the community. Her telephone skills took her to jobs in Lebanon, Ohio, Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, and General Electric in Cincinnati. In 1952, she was recruited to serve as head switchboard operator at Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) near Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Glenna married and gave birth to two children, Emily Ann and Robert Glenn.

In 1964, when the University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI) opened, Glenna went to work as its front desk receptionist and switchboard operator, where she loved meeting and working with dignitaries.

After moving to Nashville, Tennessee in 1972, Glenna served in several positions with the State of Tennessee, Ensworth School and L.C. Anderson Construction Company.

Glenna is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Howard R. (“Put”), Arthur Covely (“Toby”), Jack, Robert Leslie (Bob), James Andrew (Jim) Putnam, and sisters Miriam Wyllodean Walker, Phyllis Jane Maddox, and Anna Mae Lakes. She is survived by daughter, Emily Ann Booker, son Robert Glenn Booker, sister-in law Ann Putnam and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 27, 2023 from 3:00pm ~ 5:00pm and Monday, August 28, 2023 from 12:30pm ~ 1:30pm with a Celebration of Life at 1:30pm all at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home 9090 Highway 100, Nashville TN 37221.
