Glenna Gray Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 27 to Nov. 9, 2022.
Glenna Mercer Gray, a long-term resident of Borger, Tx. went home to The Lord on August 10,2022 at Providence Place in Woodward, Oklahoma at 84 years of age.

Glenna was born on Feb. 21, 1938 in Floydada County Texas. Her parents were Earl Stanton Mercer and Florence Faye & James Vernon McCarty. They moved their family to Sunset Heights edition of Phillips, Texas in 1943. Glenna graduated from PHS as a proud Blackhawk in 1956. She went on to attend classes at FPC and Texas Tech University.

Glenna married Billy Don Riddle on September 16,1960 and this union brought them three daughters. In 1968 they began their service business adventure, Riddle's Welding. They were able expand their business and build a new building in 1974, it became Riddle's Welding & Machine Shop. This union dissolved in 1977.

At this time Glenna began to use her creative side and began her journey in the retail business. She became involved in the Women's Division of Borger Chamber of Commerce. From 1978 to 1995 she served as an officer or director and chaired committees working with lots of talented and very interesting people. Glenna served on the United Way Board, and the American Cancer Society Board, as secretary, then president. In 1980, she was voted Hutchison County Women of the Year by the Beta Sigma Sorority; Glenna felt very honored because she was not a member of their organization.

Glenna reconnected with an old PHS classmate, Charles "Bud" Gray, in the Fall of 1979. They chose to blend their families on, June 9, 1980, at the First Baptist Church of Phillips. The fall after they married Bud returned to coaching, in Gruver, Tx. and Glenna was the secretary to the pastor at the First Baptist Church. They resided there for three years before returning to Borger. Upon returning, Glenna went back to retail sales and opened, Creations Children's & Maternity Shop, which she enjoyed so much. She was a very talented seamstress and chose to size down her business as time passed to just, Creations, doing alterations & custom sewing. Bud pasted away in January of 1998.

Glenna moved in June of 2010 to Arnett, Ok and enjoyed her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. She served as the book-beeper at the Arnett Sr. Citizens Organization and attended the First Christian Church.

In 2012, Glenna returned to Borger after the Catholic Nursing Home, where her mother lived, in Panhandle Texas closed. She thought it would be best for herself & her mother to both move back to Borger to be together until The Lord called Faye home.

Glenna spent the last seven years in Woodward, Oklahoma to be close to family as she entered her final season of life. She resided at Providence Place Assisted Living Center until The Lord took her home on August 10,2022.

Glenna was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Bud Gray in 1998 and a great-grand child Hayden Anthony Stewart in 2017.

The surviving relatives are Debbie Magenot, Mitchell Magenot both of Borger, Tx., Paulette & Bill Conner of Bremen, Ga. And Susan & Bob Brunson of Woodward, Ok. She was blessed with nine grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

We will have a Celebration of Life and lay Glenna to rest next to the love of her life, Bud, on November 12th at 11:00 am at Highland Park Cemetery, Borger, Tx.
