Glenna Schardein

Glenna R. Schardein, 83 years old. Beloved wife of Fred W Schardein for 62 years. Born in Morganton, N.C., she attended Purdue University and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Upon retirement, she moved to Louisville in 1994.
Glenna enjoyed tennis, bowling, golf and especially boating and her friends at Open Range. She lived in the Netherlands for 3 years and enjoyed boating in our cruiser in the Dutch canals. Glenna traveled internationally, visiting all the European countries including Moscow while still communist. She especially enjoyed a six-week vacation to New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, which included a 12-day barefoot cruise on a 145 ft. boat across the Coral Sea to the Trobriand Islands. One of Glenna's greatest pleasures was cruising the Ohio, Tennessee and Cumberland rivers in our custom-built trawler "Sea Lion" where she spent months anchored in various bays.
She lived an adventure filled life and enjoyed every minute of it. Glenna was always sweet and caring to everyone she ever met.
She is survived by her caring daughter, Linda Jacobs (Ken), son Cliff Schardein (Donna), her grandchildren Veronica, Nicholas and Allison and her brother Ronald Russell (Kay).
Visitation will be at Highlands Funeral Home on Thursday, April 14th from 3pm – 7pm. Private burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Lupus Foundation of America.
