Sandra Wild Schardein

Sandra Wild Schardein, 79, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
She was born on September 21, 1946, in Bethesda, Maryland, one of five children to the late Gelbert S. Wild, Sr. and Dorothy Klapatch Wild. Her two brothers, Gelbert, Jr. and Charles Wild preceded her in death.
Sandra was a writer and editor before working as a case management coordinator, retiring from Louisville Metro Housing Authority. She was a founding member of the Second Street Neighborhood Association, a former Girl Scout Leader, and an active member of the Jane Austen Society of North America. Sandra and her husband are longtime members of St. Leonard Catholic Church.
Sandra is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, David Lee Schardein; children, Thomas D. (Melanie) Schardein, Paul F. (Katie) Schardein, Amy L. Schardein (Russell Johnson); and grandchildren, Will, Eli, Ava and Cecily. She is also survived by her siblings, Mary Werkheiser and Robert Q. Wild.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 pm on Monday, December 22, 2025 at the funeral home.
