Gloria Jean Chalmers

Gloria Chalmers, affectionately known as Grammy, Glokee, or Glo Glo, was born on February 7, 1958, to Alfred and Martha Thomas in Leland, Mississippi. Her father, Alfred, a devoted pastor, instilled in her a deep love for God. After graduating high school , she moved to Memphis, Tennessee, to further her education and later enlisted in the Army Reserves.

In 1978, while in Memphis, Gloria joined a biblical teaching ministry, dedicating her life to sharing God's word with everyone she met, which is how she would meet her soon to be husband, Richard Chalmers. In 1992, she moved to Rome City, Indiana, with her family to attend The Way International's leadership training program.

Gloria and her family eventually relocated to the metro Atlanta area, where she and her husband raised their four children. She became widely known for her nurturing spirit and for sharing her love and expertise with new mothers, offering guidance and support to help them confidently raise their children. Throughout her life, Gloria's focus remained steadfast on God and family.

Her legacy lives on through her children: Elizabeth and husband Arturo Gonzalez, Jan and husband London Clemons, Megan Chalmers, and Timothy and wife Natasha Chalmers; and her beloved grandchildren: Elise Gonzalez, Avery Gonzalez, and Isaiah Braswell. She is also survived by nine siblings: Robert Lee Thomas, Luster Thomas, Isaiah Lee Thomas, James Thomas, Christine Halliburton, Billy Thomas, Keri Montague, Deborah Redd, Velvet Boone, and Gary Madison, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Paw Paw" Chalmers; her parents, Martha and Alfred Thomas; and her sister, Loretta Thomas.

Gloria's legacy of generosity, love for God, and care for others will continue to inspire and uplift those who had the privilege of knowing her. She is deeply loved by all and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the Bill Head Funeral Home Lilburn/Tucker Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
