Gloria May Claeys Coplin, age 65, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 13, 2025, at her home in Mishawaka. A lifelong Mishawaka resident, Gloria was born on August 22, 1960, to the late A.J. and Clara (Cox) King. Gloria was a proud graduate of Mishawaka High School. She first married Ed Claeys, and though Ed passed away on September 5, 2001, she carried their memories close to her heart. In time, God brought new love into her life when she met Alan Coplin. They were married on May 23, 2003, in the Shiojiri Gardens of Merrifield Park. Together, Gloria and Alan shared 22 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and countless happy moments.
Alan survives, along with Gloria’s son, Adam (Erin) Claeys, and her five grandchildren; Vince, Selena, Rhianna, Collin, and Julianna, who affectionately called her “G.G.” Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with them. She loved to laugh, play Rummy or Euchre, and simply be surrounded by the people she loved most.
Gloria had a creative spirit and loved making crafts. Her home was filled with her artwork and paintings. She enjoyed sewing blankets and transforming simple things like old wine bottles, into beautiful pieces of art for family and friends. She was always up for trying something new. She also loved to travel and took great joy in going on cruises with her family, especially to Alaska and the Bahamas.
She loved reading Danielle Steel novels and mysteries. She was also fascinated by the history of the Titanic and enjoyed giving lectures and teaching the history of the ship and its passengers to others She was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame football, and Paul McCartney.
Gloria loved to cook and bake, especially during the holidays. She had a generous heart and gave freely, expecting nothing in return. She could talk for hours on the phone with family and friends, sharing stories, encouragement after a tough day, motherly advice, and plenty of laughs.
For many years, Gloria worked at the University of Notre Dame in the Hesburgh Library and later took a position in the Department of Gifts and Sales, before retiring.
Most of all, Gloria’s faith in the Lord was the foundation of her life. No matter what challenges she faced, her trust in God never wavered. She was a devoted member of EPIC Church in Mishawaka and loved her church family deeply.
Visitation will be held from 5–8 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at EPIC Church, 3524 Harrison Rd, Mishawaka, IN 46544. Friends may also visit one hour prior to the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at EPIC Church, with Pastor Jeremy LeVan officiating.
