Gloria J. Coty, 87, of Albany, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.
The daughter of Kenneth and Maxine (Koehler) Anthony, she was born in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Gloria was the first of two children born to Maxine and grew up in Long Beach, California. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1955. She moved to
Albany, Oregon in 2014.
Gloria was such an inspiration to so many. Her dedication and determination were unmatched. Over her lifetime she had many different professions; but, the one that she was most proud of was being a mother. She was also a daughter, a sister, a grandmother, a great grandmother, and a great-great grandmother.
Gloria was an amazing person who blessed others in ways you can only imagine. She was a woman of faith, truly living by the word and spreading love everywhere she went and with everyone she met. She never missed an opportunity to share his greatness with others. She started going to church when she was just 8 years old, and over her lifetime she walked with God through everything.
In her early years she had four children and in her later years she adopted five of her grandchildren. Those years of raising all of her kids are the years she would recall as the best times of her life.
When all of her children had been raised and moved out she had some free time to spend doing some of the things that she loved best. You would often find her in the garden tending to her many plants, it was her happy place. We all told her how impressive it was that she was able to get her orchids to bloom again, and she would always say "Oh I don't do anything special, I just water them with a little fertilizer." She was also an animal lover her entire life and really enjoyed spending time with her three cats in her last years.
Gloria had an incredible sense of adventure all the way up till her final days. When she was young, she loved to water ski and go out dancing. She traveled whenever she got the chance, even well into her 80s. She also loved to just sit down with crossword puzzle, the more challenging the better. A good book and having time to read for hours, especially her Bible, was time she cherished as well.
Her family was her joy in life and when she would recall her favorite memories over the years it always involved getting together with her family and/or friends for some quality time together, usually over a good meal or a big bowl of ice cream. Gloria was a kind, gentle, and loving person who dedicated her entire life to helping others. Gloria was truly one-of-a-kind, and the mark that she's left on this earth is quite significant.
Gloria is survived by her children Penny Knight, Lyle Maxon, Renee Barrong, Jerod Coty, Abigail Coty and her husband Jacob Morgan, Jonathan and wife Shannon Coty, Pamela Coty, and Noel Coty. Also survived by her grandchildren Brandy Hamar, Joseph Rathsack, Jennifer Allbritton, Jeff Rathsack, Jason Maxon, and Rochelle Boyd. Also survived by numerous great grandchildren and a couple of great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded by her mother Maxine Shields, father Kenneth Anthony, step-father Edward Shields Sr., brother Edward Shields, and her son Douglas Maxon.
