Gloria Mary Ann Hempel, age 90, of Annandale, entered her eternal home with Jesus on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the Annandale Care Center under the love and care of her family and hospice.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, at North Crow River Lutheran Church, Cokato, with Pastor John Foley officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Gloria Mary Ann Carlen was born on September 5, 1935, in Knapp to A. Rudolph and Ida (Erickson) Carlen. She attended country school through 8th grade, and graduated from Cokato High School in 1953. After high school, she first worked at the MN State Board of Health and then at the local telephone company in Cokato.
She was united in marriage to Marlyn Hempel on November 19, 1955, and from this union four children were born. They had first made their home on the Hempel farm in Cokato and then moved to live in the Annandale area. They divorced in 1992.
Gloria's life was defined by her unwavering faith and dedication to her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She always made people feel welcome and had time for a visit with anyone that stopped by. The coffee pot was always on, along with her baked goods and a listening ear.
She enjoyed crafting, sewing, baking, being a member of Pioneer Park, watching sports, especially the Vikings and girls basketball. She also liked garage sales and finding treasures.Gloria is survived by her children, Cindy (Kevin) Dircks of Annandale, Shennon (Kim) Hempel of South Haven, Jody (Kevin) Nyenhuis of Marine on St. Croix, and Cary Hempel of Annandale; grandchildren, Brian (Shari) Dircks, Traci (Ryan) Berns, Aaron (Jessica) Hempel, Jordon (Nicole) Hempel, Walker (Alison) Nyenhuis, Autumn (Jacob) Grow, and Claire Nyenhuis; 15 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Harvey Olson; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Alden (Millie) Carlen, Fern (Ed) Mattson, Paul (Betty) Carlen, and June Olson.
Gloria's grandchildren will serve as casket bearers. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Annandale.
