Gloria Koth was born April 26, 1932, in Clarksville, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Frieda (Voigts) Wiegman. They moved to Greene, Iowa, where she grew up with her sister Kay. She graduated from Greene High School in 1950.
On December 27, 1950, Gloria was united in marriage to Curtis Koth, while he was on leave from his military assignment. She continued to live in Greene until his return two years later when they moved to Sibley, Iowa where they remained most of their married lives together. They were blessed with two daughters, Kimberly and Jane.
Gloria first worked the night shift at the creamery where she met many lifelong friends. She also worked at a department store and part time at the county treasurer’s office. Gloria’s entrepreneurial spirit and outgoing personality eventually led them to start Koth Draperies and a children’s clothing store. She made drapes until her retirement.
Gloria and Curtis did everything together. They loved remodeling houses and spending time at their cabin in Okoboji, socializing with friends and family, and took pride in the community they lived in. They were members of Trinity Lutheran Church, where Gloria taught Sunday School for many years and participated in the Couples Club where many friends were made. Gloria was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed gardening, reading, playing cards, and spending time with her family. She would never turn down a cup of coffee and a good conversation. Gloria thrived being around others.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Jane (Jeff) Schultz of Lakeville, MN; grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Larson, Heather (Jeff) Vanis of Lakeville, MN, April Schultz of Henderson, NV, and Russell (Morgan) Schultz of Hickson, ND; great grandchildren, Parker, Lily, Carter, Caleb, Olivia, Millie, and Archer; sister, Kay (Gary) Brower of Hampton, IA; along with many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Frieda; husband of 66 years, Curtis; and daughter, Kimberly.
She will be missed. Blessed be her memory.
