Obituary of Gloria L. Lyvers
Gloria L. Lyvers departed this life on Monday, January 5, 2026, at her home.
Gloria was born on September 12, 1940, in South Bend, Indiana, to the union of the late Charles and Jimmie Richards. She received her education in the South Bend Community School System and was a proud graduate of Central High School.
Gloria dedicated over 20 years of service working in the medical field before retiring from Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana. Her career reflected her caring spirit and compassion for others, traits that were evident throughout her life.
Following her retirement, Gloria moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where she was united in holy matrimony to the late Burton Lyvers. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Gloria's life was centered around family, and she gave selflessly of her love, wisdom, and strength to all who knew her.
In her leisure time, Gloria enjoyed spending quality time hanging out with her son, Dwayne Avance. She also loved traveling, attending concerts, and visiting the casino-activities that brought her joy and many fond memories.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Jimmie Richards; her step-father, William Hoover Sr.; her beloved husband, Burton Lyvers; a son, Anthony Kirk Avance; a granddaughter, Tonya Griffin; a great-granddaughter, Na'LonnieEaton; two brothers, Kenneth Miller and Pastor John Miller; and two step-brothers, Wiley Hoover and William Hoover Jr.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory seven children: three sons, Dwayne (Aisha) Avance of Indianapolis, Indiana; Rodney (Virginia) Petty of Oceanside, California; and Jerry (Yolanda) Young of South Bend, Indiana, Bonus son Timothy (Hilda) Jackson of Indianapolis; and four daughters, Jacqueline Thompson of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jimmie Spears, Sonya Griffin, and Tonya Buggs, all of South Bend, Indiana. She is also survived by a sister, Janice Miller; a step-sister, Mattie Hoover; a sister-in-law, Frankie Miller; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the residents of Heritage Place at Ardmore Trail for the friendship, kindness, and unwavering love shown to our beloved Gloria Lyvers over the years.
Gloria L. Lyvers will be remembered for her gentle spirit, steadfast love, and the lasting legacy she leaves in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
