Gloria Lynn Papp, 58, of Carthage, formerly of Erie, died at 5:56 p.m., Thursday, August 21, 2025 at the University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City, Kansas.

Gloria was born August 21, 1967 in Fort Scott, daughter of Frank and Edna (Yoho) Geiger. She grew up and attended schools in Erie and graduated from Erie High School.

She married Mark Hemphill on September 29, 1986 in Miami, Oklahoma and he preceded her in death on March 25, 2004. She married Dean Papp on December 22, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Pittsburg and he preceded her in death on September 16, 2024.

Gloria worked as a medical transcriptionist.

Gloria enjoyed her family, cooking and using her own recipes, flower gardening, animals, and nature.

Survivors include her son, Mark Hemphill, Jr., of Columbus, her father and step-mother, Frank Geiger, and his wife, Patricia, of Erie, her mother and step-father, Edna Hallacy, and her husband, Robert, of Brazilton, her brother, Ron Hallacy, of Brazilton, her sister, Tina Geiger, of Pittsburg, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, and her dogs, Auggie and Ricky.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husbands, Mark Hemphill and Dean Papp, her grandparents, Wayne and Pearl Geiger, Vernon Yoho and Rosemary Kern, and her sister-in-law, Jamie Hallacy.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 20, 2025 at the Hepler Cemetery in Hepler, Kansas. Inurnment will follow the services and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to assist the family with final expenses and the SEK Humane Society. These may be left at the service or the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
