Gloria R. Wersinger

Gloria Wersinger, 89, passed away at home on March 19, 2022, with her family by her side. Born in Red Bank to James and Linda Dellapietra, she grew up in West Long Branch and graduated Long Branch HS in 1950. It was there she met her one and only, Leland Wersinger. They married in 1955 and moved to Oceanport in 1960 to raise their family.
In her earlier years she could be found sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafting or shopping. She was in ceramic classes, on bowling leagues, or riding her bike around town. She was an avid reader and a regular at the Oceanport library. She and Leland took dance lessons for years and were the first ones on and last ones off any dance floor. She had a new outfit for each occasion. As empty-nesters they traveled extensively. From cruises and resorts, to bus trips or B&Bs, spanning Hawaii to Alaska to Bermuda, and everything in between. When they returned home from one adventure, she was busy planning, and shopping for, the next. "The G" will be remembered for her unique sense of humor and made up sayings. She always loved cats, margaritas, and anything purple. When you put on your "sitting and eating shoes" or wear purple, think of her.
She leaves behind her devoted husband Leland, son Gary and his wife Mary (Fiorillo) Wersinger, and daughter Gale Wersinger. Also her sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Dominick Mazza, her sister-in-law Carole Wersinger, several cousins, and 3 generations of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 23 from 4-7 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch. The funeral service will begin on Thursday at 10:30 am at the funeral home followed by the entombment at Woodbine Mausoleum in Oceanport.
