Gabriele Weth Hutchinson, 74, of Louisa, Kentucky, died at her home, surrounded by her family,

on August 28, 2025, after a long health battle and a brutal fight to the finish. Gobby, as she was

known to all, is survived by her husband of 54 years, Doug Hutchinson; her three children, Brent

Hutchinson and Gwen Hutchinson; Brian Hutchinson and his wife, Elizabeth; Caryn McCreary

and her husband, Chad; as well as six grandchildren: Adam and Miles Hutchinson; Benjamin

and Sarah Hutchinson and great-granddaughter, Sophia, and Riley Hutchinson and his fiancée,

Lauren Alexander; and Emily and Aubrey McCreary. Her stepfather, Don Tolliver, of

Whitesburg, and siblings, Randy Tolliver, Vera Steffens, and Peter Weth, as well as a host of

extended family and friends, also mourn her passing.

Gobby was born on November 5, 1950, in Mittelsinn, Bavaria, West Germany to the late Adolf

Weth and Colette Remlein Tolliver. She was raised in her mother's family village of Euerdorf

until coming to the United States in the mid-1950s, when her mother married Don Tolliver of

Knott County, Kentucky. Gobby grew up in Knott County until moving to Letcher County in 1968

and graduating from Whitesburg High School, all before becoming a two-time graduate of

Morehead State University and the first in her family to attend and graduate from college. She

became a naturalized US citizen in 1985. "Mrs. H" retired from her lifelong teaching career in

Lawrence County, Kentucky Schools in 2001.

Of utmost importance to Gobby was to be a friend to everyone, stepping forward in life in

kindness and compassion to all, with a frank but gentle approach to loving and guiding her

family and her students alike. She was authentic, sweet, thoughtful, and wise to many. All of this

came as an outflowing of her deep and abiding faith in Christ. Gobby never knew a time in her

life where she felt apart from Christ, spending most of her life in community at Garrett Chapel

United Methodist Church, and in more recent years, as part of Kilgore Community Church,

always serving others sacrificially in the way of Jesus.

Gobby is preceded in death by her mother and father, as well as three siblings, Linda Carol,

George, and Kevin Tolliver, and her faithful in-laws, Glen and Gay Fannin Hutchinson and

sister-in-law, Carolyn Hutchinson.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, August 30 from 6 to 9 p.m., with final visitation at 1 p.m.

and funeral at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, all at Steen Funeral Home Chapel on 13th Street in

Ashland. Rev. Pete Miller will officiate services. Burial will take place at Riverview Memorial

Gardens in Louisa.

Gobby loved flowers, but she would also desire others to have the chance to live without the

scourge of dementia. Please honor her as you wish; if you would like to make a donation in lieu

of flowers, direct that to the Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter of the Alzheimer's

Association at https://www.alz.org/kyin. The family kindly requests you refrain from sending

keepsakes.
