Godfrey G. Ramirez Sr. passed away peacefully in his home on July 16th, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jesus T. and Maria H. Ramirez, brother John Lucero, and in-laws Leo and Martha Duran.
Godfrey is survived by his loving wife Viola, children Rae Marie Montano (Roger), Brenda Encinas (Mario), and Godfrey G. Ramirez Jr. (Norma Jean), 6 grandchildren, 4-great-grandchildren, and brother Robert Soto.
Godrey was born November 8, 1942, in Gallup, NM. Godfrey and Viola were married on February 14th, 1965, after Grandma Duran told them, “If you don't have her home by midnight don't bring her home at all”, so they eloped to Juarez Mexico after going to a Fats Domino concert in Window Rock Arizona. They raised 3 beautiful children and were inseparable until his passing.
Godfrey served in the National Guard Reserves for 6 years. He was employed for Marinsek Bros. He started his welding career when employed with Southern Union Gas Company in 1967, United Nuclear Mine, and the City of Gallup where he retired as a welder supervisor in 2007.
Godfrey was a welder and an avid Minnesota Viking fan his whole life. He enjoyed playing softball, swimming, biking, and coaching baseball, including the undefeated city champions the Twins in 1984, a great summer, and of course watching his Vikings games. Later after retirement he continued to weld and make special items for family and friends. He enjoyed spending time and making great memories with Viola, his children, and grandchildren.
Godfrey’s celebration of life will be held with a rosary and mass on August 2nd. Rosary will begin at 10:30 AM with a mass at 11:00 AM at St. Francis Church, burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Reception will be at San Damiano Hall next to the church following services.
Pallbearers will by Gilbert Ramirez, James Mirabal, Tyler Montano, Aidan Ramirez, Roger Montano, Mario Encinas, Jeff DeArmond, and Eddie Bortot.
Honorary Pallbearers include Nicolette Hoellwarth, RaeLynn Ramirez, Isabel Encinas, Olivia Encinas, Addison Ramirez, Heston Hoellwarth, and Indiana Hoellwarth.
