Gordon Granger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home on Jan. 30, 2026.
Gordon Granger, 95, a lifelong resident of East Granby, passed away on January 28, 2026, after a short illness. Born on June 24, 1930, to Fred and Elsie Granger, Gordon lived a long and active life marked by deep devotion to his family and strong roots in his community. He consistently set an example of how to live a good life.

Gordon attended Northeastern University and the University of Connecticut. After serving in the U.S. Army, he and his brother Norman joined their father and uncle at F.P. Granger and Sons, becoming the third generation to lead the family business. A strong believer in community service, Gordon was deeply involved in East Granby, serving on numerous town boards and committees, a member of the volunteer fire department, and a founding member of the East Granby Lions Club.

Gordon's life spanned generations of change, all of which he embraced-whether mastering his smartphone, learning to use Google and Alexa, streaming UConn Women's Basketball games, or most recently taking up Wii golf and bowling.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol York; his son and daughter-in-law, Gordon Jr. (Rick) and Gail Granger; five grandchildren-Austin (Leah) York, Andrew (Katie) York, Shelby (Jesse) Barnhart, Christopher Granger, and Timothy Granger; and nine great-grandchildren who affectionately called him "OG"-Sam, James, Charlotte, Mason, Wren, Everett, MacKenzie, Alice, and Miles. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Bruce George; his sisters-in-law, Margaret Lindauer and Winifred Granger; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth; his daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Tom Adams; his son-in-law, Stephen York; and his brother, Norman.

Gordon's wisdom will be deeply missed. He will be remembered with love and respect by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Gordon's life will be held on Saturday, February 7th, 2026, - 02:00 PM to 04:00 PM - East Granby Congregational Church - 9 Rainbow Rd, East Granby, CT 06026

**There will be a Tribute to Gordon at 3:00PM**

Memorial donations may be made in Gordon's memory to East Granby's Friend to Friend Thrift Shop and Food Pantry (friendtofriendeg.com) or to The Center for Nursing Excellence Fund at the UConn Foundation (s.uconn.edu/nursingexcel).

Carol and Rick,
I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. I fondly remember him as a part of my school years in East Granby. Its hard to believe how much time and life has been lived since our youth. But I will always remember his kindness, and soft spoken voice. May he rest in peace.
