Gordon Laxo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Casper Funeral & Cremation Services on Mar. 4, 2026.
Gordon "Gordy" Laxo, 65, of Portland, ME passed away on February 20, 2026 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA after a period of declining health. Gordy was born in Ishpeming, MI to the late Axel and Immi Laxo.
Gordy attended the Republic-Michigamme school system, graduating in 1978. He moved to Sturgeon Bay, WI to work at the shipyard and Door Electric. Gordy later moved to Boston with his brother, Duane, and sister-in-law, Lori, where he and Duane worked at the Boston Aquarium with fond memories. Gordy was then employed at Boston Centerless as a machinist for 25 years.
Gordy met his patient and loving wife, Geri, in 1988, at the local bowling alley, and remained married for 36 years. Gordy was blessed with a son and daughter, and three grandchildren, whom he adored. He worked as an equipment manager for his son's pop warner football team for 6 years and enjoyed many family trips, including recent trips to Michigan to visit family and his beloved Lambeau Field.
Gordy was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers and held high hopes for their Super Bowl appearances, celebrating their accomplishments in 1997, 1998, and 2011, despite residing in the home of the New England Patriots. He held a love of music, with favorites of Stix and Pink Floyd, passing the love of music on to his son.
Gordy was the definition of strong-willed, particularly in regard to his health, living with Type 1 Diabetes. He underwent two separate kidney transplants, allowing him the opportunity to know his children as they grew into adulthood and to experience being a loving and loved Papa.
Gordy will be missed. Gordy is survived by his wife, Geri Laxo, of Portland, ME, son, Andrew Laakso and his wife Christine of Maine, daughter, Jennifer Laxo and her long-term partner Ed Pick of Harpersfield, NY, and 3 grandchildren. Gordy is also survived by 2 brothers, Duane Laxo and his wife Lori of Michigan, Frank Laxo and his wife Shirley of Michigan, and his sister, Amy Laxo, of Michigan, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, Pete Laxo, and parents, Axel and Immi Laxo.
Burial will take place in Republic, MI at a later date.
The family is grateful to the organ donors whose selfless acts provided Gordy many more years of life.
