Bucksport-FREIDA EMERY CHASE, 94, of Bucksport, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 16, 2026. She was born July 23, 1931 in St. Francis, Maine. Her parents were Edmund J. and Annie (Morin) Emery.

She attended schools in Fort Kent before moving to Portland where she graduated from Deering High School in 1949. She worked for many years with Banking and Insurance Firms in Portland, Ellsworth and Bucksport and retired from Champion Paper (Verso) Company in 1988.

Always active, she was a member of the Federation of the Women's Garden Club, a lifetime member of the Bucksport Garden Club, the Bucksport Historical Society and past President of the former October Club. She was a longtime member and Trustee of the Franklin Street United Methodist Church and Treasurer of the Women's Society of Christian Service.

Freida will also be remembered for her pride in her Maine Acadian decent, fierce independence, creativity, and fondly for her "all knowingness" as "Freida 5-0."

She is survived by three children; Gary Sturtevant and wife Debbie Towle of Naples FL, Donna Casey and husband Richard of Falmouth, Michael Sturtevant and wife Tracy of Casco, as well as stepchildren Cathy Lee of Bangor, Kim Day of Washington D.C., Donna Doucette and husband Gregory of Cumberland, and son David R Chase of Vass, North Carolina. Freida leaves many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well. She was predeceased by husband, Richard O Chase, eldest daughter Wanda Sturtevant, and sisters Judy Nedeau, Edwina Layton, and Sheila Deabay.

A memorial service will be held at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home 2026, 28 Elm St. Bucksport on, May 30, 2026, from 10:00 to 12:00 am(mitchelltweedie-young.com).
