Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Bucksport on Mar. 3, 2026.
Castine- Ann Lackman Miller died on February 24, 2026, of natural causes at the age of 105 at her home in Castine, ME. She lived a full life distinguished by family and civic engagement. She lived the first 26 years of her life in Cincinnati, OH, the next 29 years in New York City, and the final 50 years in Castine, ME. She was the oldest living resident of the town.

In New York City, she was President of the Riverdale Children's Association, one of the city's leading foster care agencies, and a longtime member of the Cosmopolitan Club. In Maine, she was President of the Castine Historical Society, Commodore of the Castine Yacht Club (one of the first women commodores on the Eastern seacoast), Chair of the Castine Historic Preservation Committee, President of the nonprofit Community Health and Counseling Services in Bangor, and a founder of At Home Downeast, a program on the Blue Hill peninsula designed to help seniors remain in their homes as they age.

Born in 1920 and raised in Cincinnati, she was the only child of Helen Hopkins Lackman and Henry Albert Lackman. She graduated from Miss Doherty's School (now The Seven Hills School) in Cincinnati and from Bradford Junior College in Haverhill, MA, before returning to Cincinnati. There she met her future husband, the Rev. Edward O. Miller, an Assistant Minister at Christ Church (Episcopal), where her family worshipped. They were married at the church in 1943 and moved in 1947 to New York City, where he became Rector of St. George's Episcopal Church, one of the largest churches in the city and one that he would serve for 29 years. They retired in 1976 to Castine, where they had long had a summer home.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Helen H. Miller and her husband Jim Kerr; the Rev. Edward O. Miller, Jr. and his wife Ginger; Henry L. Miller and his wife Shelby; and, Dr. David H. Miller and his wife Bonnie. She is also survived by six grandchildren, a step-grandchild, 11 great-grandchildren, and a step-great-grandchild. Her husband died in 2000.

A memorial service will be held in Castine in the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her honor to Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 433, Castine, ME 04421, or Community Health and Counseling Services, P.O. Box 425, Bangor, ME 04402. Arrangements are under the care of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services Bucksport. (mitchelltweedie-young.com)
