Alberta M. Grindle

Orland- Alberta (Grindle) Whitney, 89 died February 27, 2026, at Maine Coast Hospital in Ellsworth, Maine. Alberta was born April 29, 1936, in Penobscot, Maine the daughter of Frank and Aurilla (Robertson) Grindle.

Alberta attended primary schools in Penobscot and was a graduate of Bucksport High School in 1955. Alberta was predeceased by her husband Philip E. Whitney (2015), to whom she married in 1956. Alberta and Phil went on to raise their family next to Toddy Pond in East Orland. In 1975 Alberta and Phil built their dream home (a log cabin) on the Back Ridge Rd in East Orland, where Alberta lived until recently. Alberta enjoyed the activities of country life, gardening, raising animals and walks in the woods.

Alberta was predeceased by her parents, her three brothers, James (Josephine), Robert (Jeanette), Franklin (Norma); brother-in-law Edward Tannehill.

She is survived by her beloved sister Jane Tannehill of East Orland. Three Children; daughter Connie Whitney Brassbridge, Son Scott Whitney, both of Orland, son Richard Whitney and wife Julie of South Carolina. Three Grandchildren; Christina Wheeler, Benjamin Whitney (Jennica), Danica Brassbridge (Nick). Two Great Grandchildren Alice and Ana.

The family would like to thank Magnolia Assisted Living (Ellsworth) who gave Alberta safety and comfort for the last eighteen months of her life. Graveside service will be held at a spring date at the Back Ridge Cemetery in East Orland.
