Gordon Lock, age 96, of Glenwood, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023.
He was born on July 1, 1927, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the son of Stanley O. Lock and Emma Martin Lock. On September 6, 1948, he was married to the true love of his life, Phyllis Robinson Lock, who preceded him in death on February 9, 2020. He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Douglas Lock, James Lock and Richard Lock; his sister, Ginger Self; five nephews, Donald Lock, Mike Lock, Bill Ratliff, and Shane Ratliff; and his niece, Cherry Ratliff.
Gordon was a United States Navy veteran, having served his country proud, but never forgot about his brother, Douglas Lock, who lost his life during the bombing of Pearl Harbor, a memory he often shared with his family and carried with him even up to his death.
Gordon was a member of the Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church and for many years was a self-employed worker with sheet metal in the heating and air conditioning business. He was an archery master, having won many trophies throughout his younger years and was even a three-time California State Champion. He was also an avid outdoorsman, and always enjoyed fishing and hunting. Gordon’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his brother-in-law, Doyce Self of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his sister-in-law, Lonetta Lock of Glenwood; his nephews and nieces, who he loved and thought of more like his children, nephews, Norris Self, Bobby Lock, Billy Lock, Ben Lock and Russell Self, and nieces, Debbie Howell, Lori White, Vickey Francis and Tammy Terry; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 25, 2023, in the Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood with Bro. Bobby Lock and Bro. Kyle Cowart officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy Honors Team immediately following the funeral services in the chapel.
