Gordon Mason Obituary

GORDON ARTHUR MASON
February 6, 1939 ˜ July 26, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Mason, who peacefully slipped away in July, due to complications of Parkinson’s Disease. In his final days, he was surrounded by friends and family. We are heartbroken to lose him.
Born in Centralia, WA, the first child of Ray and Lucille Mason, Gordon moved to Camas, WA, in 1950, with his father and sister, graduating from Camas High School and later earning a BA at San Diego State University. In high school, he met Margo Moyer, the first love of his life; they married June 15, 1963, and had two boys, Jeff and Andy. They settled in Vancouver to raise a family, until Margo’s untimely death Oct. 2, 1979. Gordon relocated his family to Camas shortly thereafter, where his sons attended and graduated from his alma mater, CHS.
In 1987, Gordon met his second love, Karen Fox, whom he married Sept. 19, 1992. Gordon loved Karen and her two children, Colleen and Laura, with all his heart. He created a happy and loving home where all were welcome, especially to share in good food, Scrabble, dominoes, or a Blazer game.
Gordon was a banker, real estate agent/broker, and contractor, proudly building his and Karen’s home, along with many others. He finished his working career in what he would consider his most meaningful work as a drug and alcohol recovery counselor.
Gordon was an adventurer, with a passion for the outdoors and travel. He could gladly spend hours on a stream bank, in a boat, huckleberry picking, or on the golf course with friends. In his younger years, he enjoyed off-road biking with his boys. He traveled by motorcycle across the western states to see the world from this unique perspective. In later years, he and Karen enjoyed trips to visit friends and family or to witness the country’s natural beauty, especially in the parks of California, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Canada.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Karen Fox of Vancouver; sons, Jeffrey Mason (Linda) of Vancouver and Andrew Mason (Rebecca) of Camas; stepdaughters, Colleen Fox (Marie Shaw) of Coupeville and Laura Fox (Rod Merrell) of Enumclaw; five grandsons; three granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.
There will be a celebration of Gordon’s life Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 4 p.m.-6 p.m, at Lacamas Lake Lodge, 227 NE Lake Rd., Camas, WA 98607.

I am writing this because Gordy and I were best friend in our early years and school days at Camas. We lost touch sometime after we graduated high school. As we all wish after the fact that we had kept in touch. I will not be able to attend your Celebration Of Life but I wil be thinking about time together. REST IN PEASE MY OLD FRIEND. Gordon
