Gordon D. Reid

Gordon D. Reid, 82, died July 31 peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was the husband of Claire (Cicchetti) Reid with whom they shared 47 years of marriage. He was born in Beverly to the late William and Arlene (Nichols) Reid.
Gordon played football at Northern Michigan University and was offered a contract with the New England Patriots. Instead, he played baseball for the Milwaukee Beers. Gordon was the co-founder of ToGo's Sub Shop and opened locations in Michigan, California and Oregon where he also owned a horse farm. He also started three pavement companies and was one of the first to implement infrared asphalt technology. He envisioned his own island oasis and built his second home, Casa De Claire, in Vieques, Puerto Rico which was regularly filled with family, friends and animals, where everyone was greeted with a "Rumski-Bumski". In 2005, he was inducted into the Beverly Football Hall of Fame. Everybody loved "Gordie". He never met a stranger.
In addition to his wife Claire, he is survived by a son, Alan A. Reid of Myrtle Beach, SC; three daughters, Sherri R. Duncan, DVM and her husband William S. Duncan, Esq of Murrells Inlet, SC, Kathy M. Marietti and her husband Myles of Marquette, MI, Whitney R. Ollila and her husband Jon of Negaunee, MI; a brother William Reid of Peabody; three grandchildren, Entonio and Milan Marietti and Carmen Ollila. He was predeceased by a brother James Reid and a sister Barbara Reid.
A celebration of Gordon's life will be held Monday, August 14 at Danversport Yacht Club from 11 am - 3 pm.
