Gordon Keith Schmidt, age 88, of Tipton, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 11, 2025, in Weatherford, Oklahoma. He was born on December 6, 1936, in Hobart, Oklahoma, to Harry and Elsie Schmidt.
Keith grew up in Rocky, Oklahoma, where he attended school and was active in sports and community events. It was there that he met the love of his life, Gwendolyn Annette Smith. They were married on December 28, 1959, and shared a lifetime filled with love, laughter, and unwavering faith.
After high school, Keith pursued a career in education, earning his degree and beginning his professional life as a high school basketball coach. His passion for sports and mentorship made him a natural fit on the court, where he inspired young athletes with both discipline and encouragement. He later transitioned into administration, dedicating the majority of his career to serving as a school principal. Keith was known for his steady leadership, fairness, genuine care for students and staff, and his unforgettable sense of humor-he loved to joke around and bring a little laughter into the school day. His ability to lighten the moment, even amidst serious responsibilities, made him a beloved and approachable leader.
In addition to his work in education, Keith also spent many years farming. He enjoyed being outdoors, tending to his cattle, and watching over them across the pasture.
Keith and Gwendolyn made their home in several Oklahoma communities throughout the years, raising their three sons- Kelly, Kris, and Kevin-during those earlier chapters of life. Later on, they settled in Tipton, where they spent their retirement years together. They instilled in their family the values of integrity, hard work, and a strong faith in God.
In his later years, Keith enjoyed traveling with Gwendolyn to visit family in Texas, cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events, and spending time on the golf course. Nothing brought him more joy than his family-especially his grandchildren, whose accomplishments he proudly celebrated at every opportunity. He was always ready with a story, a brag, a helping hand, or a word of encouragement.
