Gordon E. Vliek, 63, of Decatur, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon, July 27, 2024, at his home.
He was born on October 25, 1960, in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of Gordon and Jean (MacLeod) Vliek.
On September 30, 1989, he was united in marriage to Judy L. Lawrence.
Gordy loved working with model trains and was very proud of his perfect lawn. He enjoyed attending the annual air show with his son, Jakob. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all. Gordy will be remembered most for having the biggest smile and best laugh.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Judy Vliek; two children – Jakob (Rebecca) Vliek and Sara (Mark) Barrett; three grandchildren – Goldie Vliek, Cooper Barrett and Maverick Barrett; brother – Tom Vliek; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and sister – Susan Becker.
A Memorial Gathering to celebrate Gordy's life will be held from 1pm-4pm on Saturday, August 10, at the home of David and Kristin Glynn, 40400 80th Ave, Decatur, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family to assist with funeral expenses. Arrangements have been entrusted to Newell Chapel – Starks Family Funeral Homes, Decatur.
