Nathan Bryant Vliek

Nathan Bryant Vliek, 42, passed away in his sleep at home on February 2nd, 2023. Nathan was born on November 26th, 1980 in Paw Paw, MI to Jeffrey Carl Vliek and Sharon Sue (Rice) Vliek. Nathan resided in Decatur, MI the majority of his life.
Growing up Nathan enjoyed playing sports including baseball, football and basketball. He loved listening to live music, spending time in nature, learning about sustainability, and spending time with family and friends. Nathan was a lifetime learner and had the incredible ability to retain an abundant amount of knowledge on any topic of interest to him. Nathan was kind to everyone he met and always welcomed a long chat. He was a loving son, brother, and uncle and was blessed with many friends including special friends Kevin Britton, Matt Stull, and his Uncle Tom Baushke.
Nathan is survived by his father Jeff Vliek, mother Sharon (Rice) Vliek, maternal grandfather Richard Rice, Paternal grandmother Gloria Vliek, siblings Erin (Jordan Bruni) Grubbs, Candice (Brian) Cady, Carly (Henry) Burkett, Kaland Vliek, and Kelsey (Luke) Bell. He is also survived by 7 nephews, 6 nieces and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Nathan was preceded in death by his brother Noel Vliek, Paternal grandfather Ward Vliek, Maternal grandmother Evelyn Rice and aunt Nannette Vliek.
A public visitation will be held on Wednesday February 8th from 5:00-7:00 at Starks Funeral Home in Decatur, MI. A celebration of life is scheduled for Thursday February 9th at 11:00 at Starks Funeral Home in Decatur, MI. The funeral will be followed by a graveside service at Lakeside cemetery and luncheon at the Decatur VFW.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Help M.U.S.I.C. program, a non-profit organization created by Decatur High School students.
