Gordon Perry Wilson

Gordon Perry Wilson, 83, of Logansport, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 21, 2024, with his daughters by his side, following a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born March 19, 1941, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Elmer S. Wilson and Irene (Taylor) Wilson. A 1959 graduate of Washington Township High School, Gordon enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and track & field. He looked forward to the annual reunions and catching up with old friends. He was also a proud alumnus of Cass County 4-H.
In 1959, he enlisted in the United States Army. From 1960-1964, he served with the Federal National Guard, continuing as a reservist until 1967.
Although he had lived in the city of Logansport when his daughters were young, his heart was always in the country on the farm that had been in his family for over 100 years. Nothing pleased him more than setting in his sunroom watching the hummingbirds. and this past harvest season knowing his crops were all in successfully and the Presidential election had gone his way. Gordon was fun to be around with his witty sense of humor and engaging personality. especially at "board meetings." Gordon never knew a stranger; he was an excellent conversationalist whatever the topic.
Gordon started working at Logansport Springs in 1963 before working at Logansport Machine Company from 1964-1970. He joined the ranks of the Logansport Fire Department in 1970. In 1980, he attained the rank of Assistant Chief. He was a member of the Logansport Professional Firefighters Local 470. He retired in 1990. Gordon enjoyed the brotherhood of firefighters and the many friendships he made over the years.
A hard worker, Gordon owned and operated his own business. Gordon Wilson Excavating, driving the big dump truck dubbed, "Big Red," and rolling around on his Bobcat. He could tell you all about the different types of rocks in his gravel pit - many dating back to prehistoric times. Gordon also carried on the Wilson family tradition of owning harness racing horses. He loved all aspects of this hobby from breeding to improve the bloodlines to helping train, and of course, the thrill of the race.
His longtime companion. Patricia "Pat" Arone, preceded him in death in 2022. The couple had enjoyed many winters in Bradenton, Florida. along the beautiful shores of Anna Marie Island. They were very also enthusiastic fans of the Indianapolis Colts.
Gordon was a Master Mason for 62-years and belonged to Logansport's Tipton Masonic Lodge No. 33. He was also a 59-year member of the Murat Shrine Temple in Indianapolis and the Logansport Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion in Walton. Gordon had served on the transportation team, making over 70 trips transporting patients and their families who were receiving care at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Chicago. The Shrine Club was one of his favorite spots and he enjoyed the dances, good food. a challenging game of euchre, and the camaraderie among his fellow Nobles.
Surviving are his daughters, Lori Lynn Wilson, and Elizabeth Ann Wilson. both of Goshen. Indiana. Gordon was very proud of the education they obtained and the many lives they have touched as teachers in the Goshen-Shipshewana-Topeka area. He is also survived by his nephew Duane (Lori) Sailors and niece. Dawn Fisher, all of Logansport, and niece. Diane (Pat) Smith, Fishers, Indiana; several great-nieces and great-nephews; several cousins and many friends.
He was also preceded in death by his former wife and the mother of his daughters, Lynn Ann Wilson; and two older siblings, Marjorie Edith Sailors and James "Jim" E. Wilson.
Visitation hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, November 25 in Fisher Funeral Chapel followed by Masonic rites and a Processional Walk by the Shrine Club. The Logansport Fire Department will provide an Honor Guard.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2024, in Fisher Funeral Chapel, with his daughter, Elizabeth, officiating at the service.
Burial, with full military honors, will follow at the Little Deer Creek Cemetery in Onward. The procession will travel past the Central Fire Station for the "Last Alarm" bell to be rung in his memory.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Logansport Shrine Club Transportation fund or the Logansport Fire Department Burn-out fund - a fitting way to remember Gordon's love and service to others.
