Grace Yvonne Bradley

Grace Yvonne Shrock Bradley, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, godmother and friend, passed away in the early morning hours of April 20, 2024, after a year-and-a-half-long cancer journey. Grace was born on September 17, 1952, in Buffalo, New York, the fifth of five children of the late Melvin and Sovina (Miller) Shrock. Her loved ones will remember her forever for her creativity, her resilience, her fierce independence, her infectious sense of humor and her uncanny and hilarious large bird imitations.

Grace was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Jacob Shrock, who died suddenly in a work-related accident when she was just 3 years old; her mother, Sovina Miller Shrock; her mother-in-law, Donna Bradley; her brother, Eugene Melvin Shrock; and her niece, Cherilyn Terrion.

She is survived by her sisters, sisters-in-law and their partners/spouses, Loretta Yoder and Kyle Latshaw, Marilyn and Ralph Stutzman, Donna and Steve Quiring, and Lois and Ron Stackhouse; her nieces and nephews Sanna Yoder and Rick Walters, Lisa and Jim Caskey, Jill Nix and David Plowman, Chon and Colette Shrock, Chad and Kathleen Stutzman, Dana and Laura Stutzman, Stephanie Quiring, Ty and Megan Quiring, and Erin Quiring; her godson Eric “EJ” Gordon; her honorary nephew, Royce Hogan; and a host of great-nieces and nephews she adored. She was married to Marc Bradley from 1987 to 1996. 

Grace was an immensely talented artist, earning her bachelor's degree in fine art from Goshen (Ind.) College in 1976. Her creativity was the cornerstone of her professional life, starting with a stint at a craft shop in West Lafayette, Ind., that she parlayed into a 15-year career with L.S. Ayres and Company in visual merchandising leadership. Grace later became a certified kitchen designer and was cofounder of KitchenWright showroom and design consultancy.  

Grace's creative work is an enduring part of the lives of so many of her friends and loved ones. Her custom kitchens and bath designs were not only beautifully hand-rendered but made use of every functional space. Her textile artworks, calligraphy, paintings and prints brightened so many rooms. Her ability to install cabinets, lay stone fireplaces and climb a 20-foot ladder to paint a vaulted ceiling are legendary.

Grace was an adventuresome friend who gathered with friends often to play games, golf and regularly vacation in the Caribbean. Her culinary skills were always celebrated – her soups, cookies, bars and pies the highlight of many family and friend gatherings. 

No one was more passionate about the plight of stray dogs, and she has been a dog-mom to more furry friends than anyone can name, including the two she leaves behind: Diamond and Moxie.

Grace will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her wish was to have a celebration of her life with her family and closest friends instead of a memorial service. “Gracefest” took place on April 13, 2024. In lieu of flowers, she would encourage you to have a laugh and be kind to someone in her honor – or to make a donation in her name to a dog rescue organization in your neighborhood.
